1st you need an exploitable 3ds 4.0.0 - 4.5.0 to run devmenu
2nd messing around with sysNAND takes backup/hardware mod to fix it if you did anything wrong

right...
and why would one with a 4.0 - 4.5 console want to update past 4.5... you're right!

I'll test this out to update this to 9.2.

Thx!

3rd no support until update for 9.2.0-XXX (gateway)

Plus, how would you get devmenu on there in the first place?

Would this test scenario be good?
1) create my 4.5 emuNAND
2) use the GW exploit UP method to update to emuNAND 8.1 with SSB
3) copy the folders 9.0.0-20, 9.0.0-20-stage2 and 9.2.0-20 to mu SD card and to the steps 3 to 9 in your signature

Thx!

Don't install new3DS cia files, it will break emuNAND > Blacksceen. Take a closer look into 9.0.0-20-stage2 directory. More infos in my sig.

I think I got it...
using the info in your sig I found that the NN3DS files have a leading 2 inside the Unique ID.
So I looked for files matching the pattern " ????????2???????.cia" and it found out 48 files...

The total files from 4.5 to 9.2 (actually from 6.0.0-11 to 9.2.0-20, which is everything the UpdateCDN downloaded skipping everything bellow 4.5) are 130.

130 - 48 = 82, which is the number of files you mention I need to install...

Did I get it right?

Thank you!

You can't modify the firmware in sysNAND simply because it won't boot and you will get a bricked 3DS. The only reason it works for emuNAND is due to the patches Gateway applies with their hack.

Unless the modified firmware gets signed correctly (which is not possible by hacking the console), you have to use GW's emuNAND (or derivatives).

Since this is kind of related to what I'm trying to do, I'll ask in this thread instead of starting a new one.

If I backup my 4.5 firmware, update to 7.2 sysNand with Pokemon Sapphire. Backup 7.2 sysNand and downgrade to 4.5, can I use the Gateway Launcher to format 7.2 emunand and play pokemon Sapphire on emuNand?

You cannot downgrade sysNAND. Doing so will brick your 3DS.

The files inside the cia are valid (compared with my decrypted sysnand for eur md5). devmenu simply installs them and updates db files, so there is still a chance to work as it was tested with ds whitelist in the other thread.

Well, I was mostly referring to the method of modifying the version number.

I have my 4.5 sysnand backed up and hardware nand flasher

It should work. I remember people updating and downgrading in the past for testing purposes.

But wouldn't it be easier to just recreate emunand and update it to 7.2 with the UpdateCDN tool?

I don't have Gateway and when I try to boot pokemon in Emunand classic, it does not ask me to update the firmware and just freezes.

I just skimmed everyone's post and I don't think anyone mentioned this. It is kinda a long shot, but if you wait for new games to come out there is a chance one of them will have 9.2 update on it. I wouldn't count on it tho.

You CAN downgrade exactly like mocalacace asked about if you have a 4.5 backup and hardware mod installed to flash/reflash the nand whenever you bloody want.

I do it all the time with my XL... flashing emunand backups to sysnand, back and forth between 4.5 and different emunand versions no problems at all.
