Hi everyone,
I've just bought a D-Link 524 and now my Wii can connect to the internet!
yaynds.gif

As I have a modded wii, I am not sure whether I can allow the system update to run. For now, I didn't allow it to run...
Has anyone had any problem updating to 3.2U? Are there any modchips for which a Wii System Update can be dangerous?
I am asking this because I am not sure which modchip I have.
What I know is the following:

1. All my DVD5 games run flawlessly, including Mario Galaxy.
2. I could not get my DVD9 copy of Smash Bros Brawl to work. I get a white screen after the first loading screen (my guess is that my wii cannot access the second layer of the DVD). However, my DVD5 Brawl runs flawlessly! What's more, I've just played it on the internet!!
3. The guy who sold me the Wii said it had a Wiikey in it (but he may have lied...)

Please, share your experience! Tell me if it is safe to update.
If anyone can guess which modchip I have from the information above, feel free to do so!! (I don't want to open my Wii just to check this...)
If there is another topic with this discussion, please post the link. I couldn't find it.
Thank you.

So, you mean that the real problem is to update from a DVD of a different region? As I am using WI-FI, the update is going to match my region, right? I thought that the problem was the new Wii firmware version detecting the modchip.
Thank you.

Oh, you should have not run the update. This update patches the wii freeloader and the trucha signer, not allowing you to play trucha signed games.
Im not real sure about that drock ive upgraded to without meaning too and all my trucha signed stupp and freeloader still works maybe it may have an effect later when ios37 hits the channels though

I have a ripped version of Smash Bros Brawl (DVD5) and I think that trucha signer was used in the process... I still can play it. No problem so far. Are you sure about that?

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
