I recently picked up a PS4 Pro that I'm keeping offline in the hopes that an 8.0 exploit eventually drops. I've picked up a couple single player game discs to play in the interim. Using Orbis Patches site I see there are some updates that require lower firmware than 8.0 that I'm on. Is it possible to update legit games without the system being exploitable and preventing the system from update PS firmware? I did some searching on the boards as well as Google but couldn't find a straight answer.

I don't think so. though, I could've sworn blocking updates as per my first tutorial still allowed game updates to install, but I might be wrong.

I think updates are like both psv and ps3 where it connects to an xml file. that's how you know whether or not all updates are needed or just the latest one or rather that's how the system knows. I thought it was only a ps3 thing, but helping someone decrypt a pkg on the vita yielded the fact that the vita does the same thing, so I assume the ps4 is also the same, since it comes from the same team as the vita.

No, a different method for any firmware to simply install pkgs (fake or otherwise). No exploit, no hen involved.

No you won’t be able to play fake pkg you install without HEN. So to do that you’ll need a fully exploited firmware (5.05/6.72/7.02)

Source ? I would like to keep my eyes on it as well. :)

Very interesting, appreciate the responses! Does anyone happen to know if the PS4 utilizes certificate pinning? Once the game discs arrive, I'll do some testing on local network. I run network monitor / DNS server from Raspi so one thought was to try and do some selective sync holing.

For those that may run into this same situation I figured I'd post an update. I finally got some disc games and confirmed the updates didn't require newer firmware. I had to set up a PSN account but I was able to prevent the latest firmware from being downloaded. Once the updates finish downloading, I'm planning on taking my PS4 back offline.

BTW you can use the OMSK method to update legit games with matching CUSA ID legit update pkgs.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
