Hello

I have a question.

I've buyed a R4ds a few months ago. I was playing PKMN mystery dungeon darkness. After a few times playing(and saved) I want again to this game and my save was gone! The only option there was is New Game. All my items, pokemon and everything I had is completely dissapeared. It seems my save is gone forever. It seems I must start all over again. This is very strange. The .sav file is still there.

Now i'm thinking of buying the Cyclods. I want to now if save games can vanish/dissapear without any reason with cyclods, too. (Asking if the Cyclods is safer to have you save files on without having them mysteriously vanishing/dissapearing/losing)

The CycloDS is probably more reliable but you should understand that the MicroSD can become corrupt easily and you should take backups every once in a while regardless.

I have owned both the R4 and the Cyclo but I never had the problem on either cart. There is always a small chance your files may become corrupted on any cart, so it's always a good idea to back up save files regularly. No cart is "safer" than another (unless we were talking about crappy carts that brick your DS).

Yeah, genuine carts are always safer.

We're not just talking about flashcarts here. Anything that uses a memory card has a chance of corrupting the card. It's always a good idea to back them up. If you have the Cyclo and get CycloEdit, it does it automatically for you, which is quite useful.

Also, were you using the card reader that came with the R4? Those things are bad quality and are known to corrupt cards a lot. It's better if you buy a good card reader instead.

Do you have suggestions on a 'good' card reader? I've been having trouble using the MicroSD-to-Regular SD card that came with the Micro card. It is Kingston, so I figured it would be ok. (Maybe my regular SD reader is hosed...) I have been using the reader that came with the Cyclo. It works fairly well but I've had a few formats and large transfers fail to finish.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
