Is anyone working on a homebrew version of an NUSGrabber-like tool?

Would be handy to have the whole download, install, run process all on the wii u.

I totally agree. While it would be convenient for those without easy access to a computer, it's always been MUCH faster to use NUSGrabber + an SD card than it would to download the same title or update right from the eShop. The Wii U's network speeds are just bad.

But it would actually be a welcome homebrew if it were something you could run overnight. I certainly wouldn't mind it :P

That never stopped anyone from making tools like freeshop for the 3ds. (And the 3dses wifi speeds are crap.)

Actually this shouldn't be that hard when you simply want files for the wup installer. I can try to quickly do it When I got a bit time again.
You just need to download the TMD, read the ContentID (reading counting count from this + doing a little loop over the contents), download the content file (*cough*), and download the .h3 file when the content is hashed (type & 0x0002). (+downloading the ticket & generating the .cert file).

Actually building a (G)UI would be the hardest (most time consuming) part.

I've made a improved version of the FileDownloder I linked, if someone is interested in it, I could post it.

Actually it still sucks to status of the download (I mean to see if its finished), but maybe you can get an idea from this example how to use it. http://puu.sh/s5e7l/d016b65177.rar
Unfortunately I don't have really time to help with any details (I may even forgot)

Wiiu games are 5-10x larger than 3ds games, so it's WAY more painful to download wiiu games from the eshop.

Yeah, but for VC or ESHOP games, they download really fast.
