You need a large enough sd card to put the game on it, then you install it to nand or usb using Wup Installer GX 2. It needs to be in Wup installable format. You can google reddit Wii U Usb Helper workaround to get games in that format.

Also ftp can only help you put the game on the sd card but not nand or hard drive. So it wont fix the problem of not having a big enough sd card.

You can try "Nusspli" or something like that, made by the cool guy with a dog's pfp, like that you will download through the Wii U the games to the USB, the app will install it and after that you can choose to delete it, just like the eShop does.

You'll only need like 4MB just for the app in the SD Card to to be ran in the Homebrew Launcher, but you can even just install the Menu version to run it sit since there. I recommend you to check that thread every few days if you're looking to use the app as it is being updated constantly.

could never ftp to install a game unless there was a way to index it. without indexing, the game won't appear. the system won't even know it's there.

To all the ones saying "you can't upload via FTP...": One could upload the files to /storage_usb/install/[some_folder] with FTPiiU Everywhere, then install it from there with NUSspli. Might be faster to download the content with NUSspli than uploading with FTPiiU Everywhere through.
