Well yeah off topic so I am allowed to ask i think :P

I often buy Asian stuff at a near asia market but normaly i tend to allways buy what i already know so no problem, now i bought some Sakura Mochi and dunno ... no clue how exactly they are eaten

SakuraMochi1.jpg

do you actually eat those leaves as well ? i have heard wild cherry is poisonous and as for what i know "Sakura" is wild Cherry, but there are only the leaves so yeah are these to give taste to the mochi just by beeing around it for a while or are they eaten as well ?

----

bought some japanese glass noodels before and it seems i did something wrong they were horrible so yeah better ask before i get into hospital due to food poisoning XD

Now that the twelve year olds have had their chance to voice their dislike of leafy greens, let's see what teh intrawebz has to say.

. Do you eat the leaf or not? Well, the leaf is edible and in my opinion delicious. However, it’s a matter of personal taste. In this area most people eat the leaf, though it seems that in Kyoto many people just savor the leaf’s aroma.
[...]
One more point to remember. Do not confuse sakura-mochi or domyoji with May’s sweet kashiwa-mochi [...] When eating Kashiwa-mochi you should DEFINITELY NOT EAT THE LEAF, as it is not edible.

So, make sure it's really sakura mochi, and then nibble on a corner of a leaf to see if you like it.

hmm ok thanks just tried it in the hope that it really is sakura mochi, but from the looks of the leaf it seems to be the correct one XD

tasted somehow a little bit like ... well dunno ... normal salad maybe.

dunno if its because of the brand or because its an industrie product or because of me but the leaf was the best of it :P somehow the mochi wasn't that good -.-V

Thanks Veho !

P.S. just noticed veho is the only one who spelled leaf correctly man now i feel bad for making anyone write in a wrong way :P

Yes, the leaves are edible. They taste a little salty for some reason, but it's a nice complementary balance to the sweetness of the sakura mochi.

*EDIT1*
I only read the first two responses (didn't make it to Veho's) and assumed they were all going to be like that.

Leave it to Veho for accurate info :)

*EDIT2*
Damn I want some sakura mochi now :(

But well ... i was in that Asia store and when i saw i had only Korean stuff even thaught i went there to buy Japanese food i just had to search for something "interesting" from Japan.

To get a little bit off topic, any nice Asian food (preferably sweets or cracker) you would suggest trying ?

I usually go for japanese crackers, regarding sweets one that I eat quite often (there's a japanese bakery in the center of the city) are manjus... I just love them, not too sweet, not too sour... They go great with tea. ^^

The leaf is just there so your fingers don't get sticky. You aren't supposed to eat the leaf, but it is edible. Much like parsley sprigs at a restaurant.

But since the question has already been answered a few times, may I make a few suggestions? These are some of my personal favorite Japanese snack foods:

Hi-Chew (any flavor)
Crunky Bar
Ramune Candy
Lotte Black Black gum
Shrimp Crackers
Glico Cream Collon
Kompeito
Melty Kiss (all flavors)
Peko-Chan Milky
Meiji Poifull (awesome jelly beans)

As far as Pocky goes, I can only recommend Almond Crush, since every other flavor I tried was meh at best.
If you like to play with your food, check out the popin' cookin' stuff. It tastes kinda crappy, but it makes some realistic looking "fake food"

An underrated opinion: While Bluesky as a platform is better than Twitter, Bluesky's userbase won't be better than Twitter as people are saying because everyone from the non-bootleg site are moving to the bootleg one expecting for themselves to change with their attitude, but that never works like that.

I will say though: Bluesky as a micro-blogging site? Needs a bit more oomph and I would officially like it better than Twiter. Can't even post gifs on that site, like what the fuck?
