how do i take advantage of UHS-1 SDXC?

i have a SDXC micro sd but its incredibly slow compared to my old SDHC.
my old unbranded generic 32gb SCHC gets like 40 mb/s and its a cheep SD

then i just brought a new Official Samsumg 128gb SDXC sd card and it only does 8 mb/s
why is my cheep sd better then my branded one?

the packaging says up to 48 mb/s with UHS-1.

Are you using this in a phone, computer, 3DS, what? Depending on the device, the reader might be the bottleneck, or even it's driver if it's on a PC. A built-in SD slot on a laptop could internally be on a USB 2.0 bus, necking you right there pretty badly. The filesystem of the SD card also plays a role in speed. We need more details from you to answer you properly.

does the packaging say 48MB/s is it's read speed or write speed?
Minimum write speed is still only 10MB/s on UHS-1.

Did you get it on ebay? The link you shows looks like a fake card to me. Check the font spacing on 128 compared to this one:

Ouch. Start it before you go to bed lol -- at least you'll know how big your SD card is. Like you said, still usable, but you would at least want to know the real size so you can plan around it.

Now I'm scared to buy SD cards.
Maybe I'll grab another microcenter branded SD. That one is superb.
Don't be scared to buy SD cards. Just be careful when dealing with less-than-reputable dealers. You may have to pay more, but the chances of getting screwed over from an official retailer on Amazon is much lower (if not gone).

Yeah, as long as you don't buy Kingston cards, apparently some QC failed/fake cards end up in legitimate shipments of Kingston cards.

All things considered, hey he got a free 8gb card lol
Hmmz, doesn't work that way i also have 1 fake 128SD that really is 8GB, i tryed to fix it to it's original 8GB so it would show up the correct space, but it isn't that easy, the funny part, you can write at 120GB to it, but you can't read anything back :D always puzzled me how they do that :D

Well, you can reformat it to an 8 GB partition :)
Usually these fake cards have subpar memory quality though and you might get corruption, plus they're slow.

Amazon is a lot better, just buy from Amazon themselves or from the company that puts out the SDs. I generally go with SanDisk, which there are plenty of fakes out there of, and I haven't come across a single fake yet from there.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
