As long (few months/weeks) as i have been busy with Hakchi2 on this forum, i wanted to know if other emulators would work, and today i found out they do.
So i should be glad right ?
Yes i am, but maybe i wanted it to be more easy, i saw the video of our good friend Nesito, his video's helped me pick games for my kids, and i think he did an awesome job for this forum.
But i saw his new video about RetroArch and i wished it would be more easier or maybe more beautiful.
Maybe i had a picture in my head how other emulators would run on the Mini NES, maybe with the same Mini NES retro screen, with the menu music we all love, but with choices.
For instance, a list of Folders, NES, SNES, GB, SMS, SMD, maybe even Coleco or PCE.
You would then go into the SNES folder, and see all the games there, with their box art, the same way as we see our NES games now.
Maybe someone is working on that, maybe never, but if that day comes, i will start to try to run RetroArch, but for now, i will stay with my NES games, i just have the feeling, that it is too soon...just my two cents :-)
According to the Russian forum and some on Reddit, it is possible to integrate RetroArch into the GUI of the NES Mini, in other words it is possible to launch games as we do now it is just another emulator being launched in the background if you for example launch a SNES game. BTW the emulator as of now works fluid and is super easy to navigate through

@Cluster i think this is happening because there are too many MB's inside RetroArch (in roms). I mean, Hakchi is maybe trying to push only 19 games to the machine but one of those games is RetroArch with 200mb's inside. There must be a limit of how much we can push in RetroArch roms directory. I've checked and i was only uploading 237Mb's and got that error.

Yeah Retroarch cores have pretty good command line support so having .desktop entries will work, maybe even using the Frontends Pixel Perfect, 4:3 and CRT display mode options. Creating a save state and screenshot on exit as well as the timer and loading from a save state slot will probably require modifying the cores though.

this looks like snes and genesis games launching from nes classic gui to me...anybody got it running like this?

Sure does look like it. Great wondering if the save states work. Although it would be better to use the save states from RetroArch since it doesn't require a screenshot.

@pcm720 Put the steps in his post:
It's possible, and madmonkey's release of RetroArch had shortcuts for NES, SNES and MegaDrive cores.
You can write bash script that launches RetroArch with specific core and ROM file, and then just replace kachikachi (Exec=…) path in the .desktop file.
It's very easy to do, but considering that Haxchi2 currently overwrites .desktop file, it's too much of a hassle. That's why I went with RetroArch GUI.

Folder Manager finished! Need to test it now. There are many changes and work since last version, so I need to test it carefully. You can download source code from GitHub, compile and test it too.

I'm not sure: release it now or spend some more time on modules and retroarch support?

Wow!! Looks sweet @Cluster !! :D A couple of questions though:

  • Can you upload and change the folder icon with one you created? Just like with game boxart?
  • Can you rename folders and make similar category of games in just one folder?
As for your question, I suggest if this build is stable and bugs are fixed, to release this version (with folder support) and then release your build with modules and retroarch support on the next release. Spend more time on it and give it some polish. Also, I would rather see retroarch to run on the background and still use the NES Mini/Famicom Mini's GUI to select games, instead of the current setup in most hacks.

I can get FDS working on Nestopia and FCEumm is only need to change buttons one to eject/insert FDS disk(B button) and other button(A Button) to change side.
Games like Murasama Castle or Otocky (Wonderful game) are working like a charm.
I render a video about this, but as anth0ny said is enough.
