The R4i-SDHC.com team has recently released version 1.87b of the kernel. What's special about this particular release was that they decided to remove the now infamous 'timebomb'. Regardless if the date and time has past a couple or so years, you will still be able to use your flashcart without having to resort to alternatives, or, in the case that they suggest to everyone: "buy another cartridge."

Game compatibility has significantly improved, like in the case for Pokemon Black Version 2, which can now be played with this cart.

That's nice to hear, it was a bit annoying having to change the firmware every few years on that one old R4i I had.

Shouldn't this be in the DS section, though? It's not a 3DS-mode flashcard.

This is for all models they produce? It's a bit strange that the website is r4i-sdhc but some of their labels are r4isdhc. :mthr:
Iirc, r4i-sdhc and r4isdhc are *not* the same people. Clones of clones of clones.

Oh yeah, I mean they're still one manufacturer, but the site on the label is different. Maybe only the first model (the 3ds mark & WiFi one) removed the timebomb. Which is also used as the image of this thread.

Have you tested this yourself?
I was wondering if 4.3 was also removed?
The r4isdhc.com and r4i-sdhc.com cards are firmware compatible with each other, so they can be easily replaced using ntrboot_flasher.

I tested.
4.3 also removed the timebomb.
But the check key seems to be still there.
When I run 1.87b with the r4isdhc.com firmware, it freezes to white.

Of course they are. Nearly all of these later carts use the same circuit boards inside, except for if the r4isdhc.com carts have '2013' or that it doesn't have a year number, then it's an R4iTT Acekard based clone.

Yes. The 4.3 firmware for Dual-Core/Gold Pro do work, doesn't have the timebomb included. :P

You can try by doing the following:

Open "R4.dat" using a hex editor. Change all instances of "00 00 50 E3 05 00 00 0A" with "00 00 50 E3 05 00 00 E2". And with any luck, the kernel should work with every DEMON clone card. Most likely this method has been patched as I had tried this with the v1.87b kernel, only for it to freeze when I load a game.
