The weekend is here, what are you playing?

It's been something of a quiet week in the gaming space, with the deluge of big hitters trying to find their place before GTA 6 launches really kicking off next week. Even so we've had some good releases; Valheim got its 1.0 release, there's a new Legend of Heroes game, and Mewgenics found its way onto the Switch 2. Coming into the weekend now, what are you playing? Are you keeping yourself occupied with new games, or digging deep into the backlog?

On my side of the fence it's a heck of a lot of Monster Hunter, specifically the English translation of Portable 3rd on the PSP. It's something of a culture shock to go back to a game that doesn't have a target camera, but at the very least Portable 3rd has a lot of the modern-ish niceties that at least minimise the friction a touch. I just fought my first Qurupeco in maybe ten years though and can soundly say that deserved to be left behind in the third generation. It is abhorrent. Beyond that though, I'm also grabbing my partner where available to smash through Orbitals on the Switch 2. I'll keep my thoughts light here with me planning to put together a video and write up for it, but hey, it's pretty great.

Let us know how you're getting on this weekend.

You lovely Nintenderp babies, hahahaha. Freedom forever! I do thus kinda miss not being there for Tri nor the 3DS stuff when it was all in its prime, but you know not the joys of juggling the los couple amidst their marital dispute and that fight being when the game mechanics finally click in your head. Speaking of, what were both of your game mechanic click moments?
Yeah it was really sad when Tri's servers went down, I might play it again now that there's private servers running, just to mess around with the bowguns again and to see for myself if Deviljho really doesn't eat his own tail (I could swear I saw it happen once).
I think the moment when everything clicked for me was when I found out I could cancel most recovery animations by evading, that was a game changer, add evasion+1 and now you also get enough i-frames to reliably roll through most attacks.

I wonder if Jho ate his tale in later games too, but I honestly didn't pickle nearly as much especially in World (and yes, Anja is close enough) since hammer was almost debilitating to play against any tall leggggs.
