Gradius ReBirth has finally hit North American Wii consoles today after being in Japan since September. The title is a remix of sorts of previous Gradius games, some of which levels have been remade to glorious 16Bit SNES style graphics. You can also use the Wiimote, Classic Controller or Gamecube controller to play this though sadly it is single player only.

Having played the Japanese release I can vouch on its quality though it is a tad easy for us longtime shooter fans. Newcomers may find it challenging though. It has WFC but as usual for WiiWare its only for uploading highscores. For 1000 points you can do a lot worse.

Played the Japanese one like mad.
Wanted it buy it bad.
Then I completed all the levels and was dissapointed.
They could added more. I woulda been satisfied with the classic six or seven, maybe eight?
Instead its like five. Last one being a final stage with mostly just the boss.
Its longer, but it doesn't make up for it.

Graphic wise I would not call this SNES in anyway.
The style of graphics are very reminicent to the old Konami arcade machines with some higher animations and colors.
I'd say kick ass 2D arcade graphics or 32-bit 2D game graphics. Not SNES by far.
R-type 3 got close but wasn't this good.

Still, the amount of levels feel short. I'm not sure if I can spend the points on it knowing that.
Though its better than Star Solier R's measly two levels for 800 points.
Also it has an ingame difficulty setting of sorts.
You destroy the top or bottom generator or none for differnt effeects and slight changes.
Which will make it feel like new stages.
The first stage is the only one thats most noticable with the changes.
Bottom for snow, top for extra lava and volcanos. Shoot neither for normal.
I think anyway, its been awhile.
Eh defintly a good game, just a little short.
