I have a PS5 pro that I use day to day and is on the latest firmware, as well as a PS4 pro that I use for homebrew (on 11.00, with BD-JB)

Having recently managed to finally get my hands on a physical version of one of the Lua exploitable games and getting that entry point to work too, I’m wondering if now would be a good time to get another PS5 for homebrew.

  • Are the boxed, unopened PS5 slim or pros in circulation now on exploitable firmware? I would rather not get a fat one.
  • Does a PS5 need to be online and updated to be paired with the BD drive?
  • What are the chances of getting fPKGs to work in the near/medium term? Any progress on that front by the scene?
  • What is the necessity of hypervisor exploits? Looking at the exploit guide the later FW revisions see to have kernel exploits without hypervisor ones but still be able to run game dumps.
Would I be better off biting the bullet, getting a 2nd PS5, updating it, getting the drive paired and my PSN accounts registered, and then putting it in storage until a kernel exploit for the now current FW is found (what I did with my PS4 pro)? I assume the Lua entry point is not patchable and would keep being vialble.

I believe it says on the box you need to be online to pair a drive.

Another potential option may be new old stock of the phat model.

I've had an OG PS5 DD on 7.00 sitting for months just catching dust, but I hope eventually I'll make use again. Haven't bothered to finish Demon's Souls and Ratchet & Clank yet.
