Hey everyone,

I recently bought a N3dsXL and have emuNAND 9.5 on it. I have decided that I want my N3ds to be my legit system and use my O3dsXL as my Gateway system. My eshop ID is currently linked to the emuNAND in my N3dsXL. My question is whether or not my eshop account is linked to my emuNand or my system itself. In other words, would removing emuNand prevent me from accessing my digital purchases? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Your eShop or rather NNID is connected to your emunand. Since GW doesn't support 9.6 yet you can't do a system transfer. You would likely need to call Nintendo.

why dont you wait until a really cool limited edition XL and go legit with that one

No, the nnid is linked to the console, not just the emunand, so he can use it on his sysnand.
I think he can also just backup his emunand and restore it to the sysnand with the gateway menu, need confirmation.

Also OP, you should install all the legit cias of your version before updating. :)

Well I followed the suggestions that Gateway made in order to remove the bug where games had to be unwrapped every time emunand was booted up. My understanding was that this unlinked sysnand and emunand. I'm sorry for the noob questions, but I just want to make sure that I can still use my e-shop account when I remove emunand. In other words, I want to make sure that I havent lost all my digital purchases, especially the ones I was not able to download before the 9.6 update.

I'm sure NNIDs are system-bound (as in serial #, not NANDs) so regardless of whether your NANDs are linked, I think if you get rid of emuNAND and update sysNAND then go to the eShop, it should work

It might ask you to set up an NNID from the settings, but you can use the same one and it won't give you an error

If you formatted the emuNAND, then the emuNAND and sysNAND will not be linked
You can also check your SD Card, to see if there are two folders (random set od 20 something characters) under Nintendo 3DS folder (I think), if there is only one then the NAND's are linked.

Have a look at this post as it may help you out...as I believe you want to move your eShop games / NNID from emuNAND on your N3DS XL to your sysNAND on your N3DS XL
https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-moving-eshop-content-from-emunand-to-sysnand.379879/

Not sure if it also applies to N3DS

Also check a few posts in as you may need to (around testing your final emuNAND) take a backup of that and re-flash that version back to your sysNAND.
...if you do make sure you always make a backup!

rxtool can do this, since he's want to go legit...but that would involve moving it to the 3DS waiting XX days then moving it back to the N3DS.

[EDIT 1]
Nevermind, you unlinked your sysnand and emunand
[/EDIT 1]

[EDIT 2]
Pitty you can't system transffer from N3DS to O3DS :/
[/EDIT 2]

Before you update:

- Install all 12 (I think Us has 12) Legit/Clean CIA files (those are rips of pre-installed games) in your 9.0/9.2 SYSNAND (Will explain later why*)
- Update your Sysnand to 9.6
- Link your NNID you used in emunand now in sysnand, this should work because the nnid is linked to the serial of your 3DS (That is if you never unlinked Sysnand and Emunand)
- Redownload your purchased content

*
Installing in Sysnand:
How To:
- Remove 3DS SD and make a backup with EmuNandTool v1.3
- Remove emunand (Reformat 3DS SD with SDFormatter and adjust size)
- Put launcher.dat on it and make a folder CIA, place all legit cia games in there
- Put 3DS SD back into 3DS
- Have Devmenu and playcoinsetter (optional) on your Gateway SD (Playcoinsetter is used only if you want 300 coins in your legit system afterwards)
- Put into your Gateway and put Gateway into your N3DS
- Boot into your sysnand and do the exploit to run gateway, don't hold "L" let it boot, you should be back into your 3DS GUI (you think)
- Press "Select" and if Gateway Multi Rom Menu appears, you are good
- Select Devmenu and select a legit CIA, then press "L+R+A" to install ALL CIA files
- When done (this will take some time) power off your 3DS
- Remove 3DS SD and remove launcher.dat and the cia.folder with all files in it
- Power back on your 3DS, all installed games should appear and you can play them
- Update your 3DS to latest FW (9.6 for now)
- If all worked out, all 12 legit installed games are also visible in your 9.6 sysnand and you can play them all.
- You can redownload all games when you wipe them, there's one exception and thats "New Super Mario Bros 2 - Gold Edition", this one you can't redownload
- You can't transffer the legit games to another system once you decide to do a system transffer

List of US Games:
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
Pokemon Omega Ruby
Pokemon X
Pokemon Y
Animal Crossing New Leaf
Fire Emblem Awakening
Luigi's Mansion 2
Mario Kart 7
Mario & Luigi Dream Team
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
New Super Mario Bros. 2 Gold Edition
Super Mario 3D Land

I have tried a system transfer from emunand to sysnand with the legit cias installed but the games appeared with a cross in data management and was not possible to re-download them again from the eshop.

Are you sure that a system transfer from sysnand to sysnand with legit cias is possible?

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
