is it .bin?
Yes, I've also seen some in .smd.
Yeah, the most used format for Genesis/Megadrive is .smd, I haven't seen any .bin's yet though.
I've seen .gen, .bin and .smd (I have a full rom set, and all of the files are named .gen). I have no idea if there are any differences in the actual files, or if it's just the filenames that are different.
Megadrive/Genesis file formats, I am being lazy right now so a bit of linking today:
There are tools all over the place to convert but most emulators support the lot.
What are actually good genesis games? I suppose I could play them on my ds but I've never considered using it. Am I missing out?
I can't find where the discussion was, but somewhere I read that it's better to convert from SMD to BIN or GEN to make them load faster in jEnesisDS.
@dakeyras it may be the rose tinted glasses effect but the megadrive/genesis had some of the best platformers and RPGs ever seen.
Check the recent release thread:
and the GBAtemp essentials list:
Ahh, I didn't even realize there was an essentials list for genesis around here. Thanks for the headsup.
This looks pretty cool, but I can't find a 'release' anywhere. =(
