Oppression? I'm sure that you know you can always let us know if you disagree with what we do... The only ways in which we oppress people are when we remove illegal stuff, but that's to keep us out of trouble. The other things we do are to stop this place turning into a lawless mess.DrKupo said:Sinkhead said:Hence why we're making rules! the problem is that no one wants that. IRC should be a ruleless place. NO ONE wants the Gbatemp Fourm Mod oppression in IRC.

Keep IRC as is, ban for warez and 4chan shit and nothing more. That's how it should be.
Almost all IRC channels have rules.DrKupo said:Look at all the deleted posts in this thread. People come to IRC to get away from that.

And #GBAtemp.net is an extension of the site, there is a hierarchy and rules. People shouldn't go there to get away from that, when they know fully well that there IS a hierarchy and rules. They should go somewhere else.
We're a civilised bunch, you see.

These rules are unnecessary. I don't mean not to have any rules, but at least don't be so strict about it.
And for warez/porn/4chan there is always the #GBAtemp.TA channel.
Maybe you could mention that in the rules?
(nevermind the blatant advertising)

If you were civilized fischju would be banned. As it stands, people DO come to IRC to get away from the rules.
Perhaps the problem of why people come to IRC to get away from the rules should be solved first.

If you don't like the rules, then stay out.
DrKupo said:I don't want #gbatemp.net to be completely lawless. Keep it legal, keep 4chan crap out. That should be it however. IRC is not the fourms and never will be. IRC is always different from the fourms, because people are free on IRC. The fourms are rulled with an iron fist and that serves the purpose of keeping idiots in line. However, seeing as everyone on IRC is slightly more intelligent then the average temper, I say allow anything legal. Trolling, flaming, and the like are all part of IRC and can not be removed.
#GBAtemp.net is just a chatroom on IRC. That's just the location of the chatroom - IRC. Sure, we could probably make a chatroom on the site - but really, there's no need.DrKupo said:I don't want #gbatemp.net to be completely lawless. Keep it legal, keep 4chan crap out. It is an extension of the site and will be ruled by the GBAtemp staff and note that it will always have somewhat strict rules.
Don't like it? No good use arguing - there's not really power to the people on GBAtemp. However, I like to think that there are a lot of nice staff members here and we provide a lot of convenient services.
I am a decent person, I'm just pointing out that if people go to IRC to escape the rules, then they need to go somewhere else!DrKupo said:I'm having a reasoned discussion with Sinkhead. If you can not at least pretend to be a decent person, please leave. I do not wish to get into a flame war with you.

I understand that the average IRCer is a better person. Like I previously stated, these guidelines are mainly for the ops, so we know what it allowed and what is not allowed. I personally am willing to bend the rules for the sake of entertainment if things aren't getting nasty or malicious, but that's just me.
