I've been opening these in Word 2007. It's the only way I know of to see the actual foreign characters instead of a bunch of garbage. It automatically picks the encoding of the text so that's why I thought it was Japanese...Be careful with this method. It's not very reliable. Here's a much better way to view GBA cheat files:

1. Double-click the .cht file, and you'll be prompted to choose a program with which to open it. Choose Firefox.

2. Once you've opened the .cht file in the browser, click on the top menu: View-->Character Encoding-->Auto-Detect-->Chinese
View-->Character Encoding-->Auto-Detect-->Japanese
3. This should be done by someone who can read Chinese and/or Japanese.

It would be awesome if you could find someone who can read both. I can read Japanese, but I have enough knowledge of Japanese characters that I can apply it to reading Chinese to a small extent.

You had the following:

Last release was 2809. Whatever format codes you can find such as Action Replay, Codebreaker, etc will be fine, I can try to convert them. I will post one of the current cheat files here and you can try to translate it for me. Here is the first one that needs translation, it's still got some Japanese in it:

Although some of the characters are in Japanese, none of it makes sense. In fact, the cheat file isn't supposed to be in Japanese, but rather Chinese. Here's what it really should look like:

I got it to look this way using the procedure I described above. The problem is that if you haven't the faintest about Chinese and Japanese characters, you really won't be able to tell the difference. So you will probably have to enlist the aid of someone who can read at least one of the languages. I think that since these files were originally in Chinese, someone who can read Chinese would be a lot more helpful than someone who can read Japanese; however, someone with a strong command of Japanese kanji would still be able to help you to some extent.

Densetsu, believe me you are telling me something that I already know, lol. I need all the help I can get. As far as the options you speak of in Word, they don't exist in Word 2007. You only get the chance to chance the character encoding as soon as you open the document, and even then if you choose Chinese Simplified (Automatic) it usually jumps right back to Japanese (Shift-JIS) on it's own. I tried forcing them to open in Chinese Simplified (ISO-2022) and I get this

Code:
[Player2/Computer blood]
???=B10C,0,44
??=B10C,0,0

[Player2/Computer physical strength]
????=B10E,0,44
???=B10E,0,0

[Player RUMBLE meter]
?=D5BC,6,0
?=D5BC,0,0

[Player2/computer RUMBLE meter]
?=D5F8,6,0
?=D5F8,0,0

Code:
[Role]
??1=1BCEA,0
??2=1BCEA,1
??3=1BCEA,2
??4=1BCEA,3
??5=1BCEA,4
??6=1BCEA,5
??7=1BCEA,6
??8=1BCEA,7
??9=1BCEA,8
??10=1BCEA,9
??11=1BCEA,A
??12=1BCEA,B

I will try out the NJstar apps and see if they produce any better results, if they do I will go ahead and buy them, otherwise they are only 30 day trials. :/

Densetsu,

the first one is distorted it is not chinese or japanese~!
the 2nd one is chinese~! which i already translated to english
smile.gif
will to pass to dohclude later:)

and one more thing most of the .cht cheats are in chinese~! which i strongly agree with~!

Perfect, thanks elixir. On a side note, I've had a terribly hard time finding Action Replay codes for games passed the 2301 release. I've found a couple, but not many. Only place I can reliably find any codes is at www.cheathappens.com and they don't have many passed the 3201 mark at all. I've found alot of the ones I need on www.gameshark.com, but they are not in AR format, and I can't properly convert them to CHT. Codebreakers cheats are not at cheats.codetwink.com, and they don't really have any of the ones I'm looking for either. So keep an eye out for sites that have cheats for me, and also if anybody knows a way to successfully convert Gameshark codes to Action Replay format.

dohclude, no problem~! don't worry~! after searching i had got codes upto 2600 but i haven't go through the list yet~! i will translate them and then host it for you
smile.gif

however no lucks from 2700 - 2808 ~! so i think our main focus will be codes from 2700 - 2800

I'm not talking about opening them in Word, I mean just double-click the file normally.

If you already use Firefox, then there's no need to install any additional software like NJStar because you can just convert it in your browser. Sorry if I wasn't clearer earlier.

By the way, thanks for renaming ALL of those cheat files. Makes things so much easier!

Your thread inspired me to start messing around with ARCrypt. So far I've succeeded in making a working GBA .cht file for 1805 - Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.

I'll help as much as I can whenever I have the time.

Ahh, firefox. That makes sense now. Thanks for that, I never thought of doing that before *FacePalm*
Believe me, it was a crazy task renaming all of those CHT files, all 2301 of them. But now since these are already renamed we can just stick to the same naming scheme for all of the newly created cheats and we'll be doing just fine. Thanks for finding those Final Fantasy cheats (I'm a Huge FF fan). I'll check them out and add them to the list if everything checks out okay. Thanks again to everyone for helping out in any way you can.

hahaha, small matter~! try find codes from 2700 - 2809 ~! that is what we are lacking~!
at least densetsu had pointed out use FIREFOX~!
since you had got the proper tool
i guess from now on our work is to sort out the .cht

it won't be easy, I might have to go as far as to try and create some cheats for some of those using the cheat search function in VBA on my PC. Here's another cheat from 0025 - Super Mario Advance (UE) that needs a quick trans:

Code:
[MB??????4]
ON=41D34,4

Good News, I've successfully been able to create some cheats using the "Cheat Search" on the Visual Boy Advance Emu and then manually convert them over to CHT files. I just made some for Final Fantasy V and they work great. I also tried the same thing with the English Patched Mother 3, but that game refuses to boot with cheats enabled at all. Some games also bug out when I use certain cheats so I will keep experimenting and only releasing rock solid working cheats.

The FFV cheat file is good news to me, I'm a huge fan of the FF series as well
biggrin.gif
In fact, I had downloaded all of the AR cheats for FF I&II, IV, V, VI and Tactics today because I was going to try to make .cht files with them when I had some time.

I'm going to have to revise the cheat file I made for Final Fantasy I & II because I forgot to include cheats for FFII. It only includes codes for FFI. I also found out that the "Always Normal Status" cheats don't work because I got poisoned during battle while I had them activated.

If you have some time, can you provide a quick tutorial on how to use the VBA cheat search function and manually convert them into .cht files? I want to make sure that all the .cht files I make work perfectly.

*EDIT*
The FFVI codes that I thought were AR codes were actually GameShark codes
frown.gif
Do you know of a way to convert GS to AR? If not, I'll try to research this.

The cheat search can only be used to search and modify values in the RAM areas, i.e., you can change your number of lives, money and life bar and you can freeze the value to get "infinite" result.

To use it, enter the cheat search dialog and start a new search (or reset any previous search). If you have 5 lives, select equal on the comparison type, make sure Specific value is selected, click on entered value, type 5 on the value to search and then click search. This will find all locations where the number 5 is present.

Return to the game and lose a life. Once you lost a life, go back to the search dialog, click on less than compare type, select old value and click on search. This will search the previous found locations for values less then the previous value. You should now be able to identify the location that contains the number of lives. You can write it down and change its value by selecting it and clicking on add cheat button. If there are still too many options, continue loosing a life and refining the search.

Some cheats will require you to use a different size for the data. For example, life bars are usually represented in 16 bits. Number of lifes is usually 8-bits. Score is usually represented in 32 bits.

Depending on the game, it is possible that values are kept in BCD format (Binary Coded Decimal), so you may need to do all the searches in hex instead of decimal format.

When you get a cheat, it will look something like this:

02003bf4:270f

To manually convert the code to CHT format, you take away the first three characters like so:

03bf4:270f

Then you replace the ":" with a "," then split the numbers after the comma into groups of two then put them in reverse order so you would have this

03bf4,0f,27

Then you Capitalize all letters (Not sure if this is mandatory) and then add "ON=" to the beginning, also put your Description for the cheat in "[]"s just above the cheat.

[Cheat Description]
ON=03BF4,0F,27

Good Luck!

Thanks dohclude and elixirdream, I'll experiment with the tutorials you both gave me and see what I can come up with.

*EDIT*
I've made some progress with the Final Fantasy series cheats. I've managed to create .cht files from scratch with codes that actually work. Still a lot of bugs to work out though. I'll keep you guys posted.

don't worry~! i will do my job this weekend~~!
like i said we need more codes from 2700-2800~!
sorry ya.. just abit tied up with NDS codes
smile.gif
otherwise i can give a hand on hacking codes

by the way... what are games that you already translated? maybe can you do me a list?
sorry .. i know is troublesome~! but at least it will eliminate the chance of double work
