Using a US 3DS and gateway v1.1 I had no problem running the EU ML Dream team.....don't have on parental controls though as I hate such things...Also as far as it updating you would normally get a few prompts before it just does it....first one is game wants to upate to firmware 5.x....then you would get a ULA asking you to confirm your 18 and accept the terms of update.....still I wouldn't chance it on a machine I couldn't read the messages on either....I would alteast try disabling partenal controls and seeing if it just launches....if it still asks for forced update then obviously abort...abort...abort.....
