Hardware Freeze on resolution change

To keep it short whenever i try to use hdmi output on my wiiu my wiiu gives me an error and freezes. I've already reset my console to no avail so do you think this is a hardware issue and how should i approach it?
The only system modification i did to the wiiu before hand was homebrew on the vwii

Maybe the TV has to be configured? Maybe the HD settings on the Wii U need to be changed? Maybe you need a different HDMI cable? Could be that the HDMI port burnt out, but at least you can use the Wii component cables.
