You can also format using pfsshell, with the HDD connected to your computer.

Be careful when you are buying used hard drives off ebay. It's possible that they may not work. I would recommend buying a mSATA-to-IDE adapter and a 44 pin IDE to 40 pin IDE adapter, then buying a 128GB mSATA drive. That configuration works well for me, and I can easily swap mSATA drives. (for example, one has FHDB installed, while another has PSBBN installed)I turned off my ps2. the the harddrive isn't detectable anymore on my computer using the usb tool. SIgh I killed the harddrive didn't I. I got this harddrive from ebay. I dought they will let me return it. I shouldn't of been so greedy and got the highest capacity one. If I can't fix this I have to resort to ESR disks I guess.
Yes, it is.P.S my network adapter, where you connect the IDE harddrive they wiggle a big. Is this normal.
doesn't detect it in that ether it only shows in device manager under disk drives and also under the usb partSometimes when I have had a disk not wanting to format. I have gotten it to work by first using diskpart's clean command on it.
Scroll through this article on how to do that.

edit: This does erase everything
or if on linux I have dd zeros to the first few bytes.

I know that site already thats how i picked out my drive but thanks for posting someone will see it that will help them.I got no idea you can put a sata drive in would of saved me alot. I need more information how to get it to fit into the slot. DO I need a 2.5 harddrive or will the full size fit somehow?HDD (if clicking) is almost certainly toast as you have worked out. As far as HDD compatibility is concerned there is a comprehensive list here :-
