Hi there, I'm using HANS. For some reason the supports go straight to "Felicia and Nyx have reached support level C" without any dialogue. How do I fix this?

That's normal, some supports don't have any implemented convos yet, so all you can do is wait(and if you really want in-game convos, pick the already-implemented ones ;) ).

They either don't have any supports at the moment, or hans isn't loading the plugin right.
It's most likely HANS since it doesn't do well with fates. You should be using the layeredfs feature from luma.

Well, it says that Niles and Silas have a support but I don't see it in my game either. I'm new to hacking and installing Soundhax + Hans took me forever

Almost no on here uses the HANS method anymore. You should really switch to custom firmware via http://3ds.guide. After doing that, it becomes a lot easier to load the hack. And it'll probably help with the missing suuport options.

Ok wow that guide looks ridiculously complicated and time-consuming; I'm probably going to break my 3DS trying it. Also the OP says NTR-CFW only works with CQ and BR, meaning my revelations one doesn't work?

EDIT: Sorry if I'm being unreasonable, I'm just so new to all of this

You won't be using NTR CFW after you finish the guide I linked. And you can use any of your save files with the hack.

The guide is not "ridiculously complicated and time consuming". It's a lot easier to install custom firmware now than it ever was before, and not one person has complained of a brick after following the guide. It won't take you long at all to finish it.

Setting up custom firmware = no more launching the Homebrew Launcher, then HANS.
Setting up custom firmware = launching the game with the hack applied directly from your Hoke Menu, with no extra steps to make sure the hack is working (after setting up the files needed on your SD card of course).

Okay, so do I just follow the guide until "Finalizing Setup"? What do I do after that?

CQ (thats my physical cart)
Okay.

1. Make this folder structure on the root of your SD card: SD:/luma/titles/0004000000179600/romfs/.
2. Download the latest version of the hack from the first post and extract it if you haven't already.
3. Navigate to Gay Fates v0.5.1/Gay Fates/v 0.5.1/NTR CFW version/USA Conquest/Conquest and copy both of those folders (GameData and m) to your romfs folder you created in Step 1.
4. Put your SD card back into your system, hold down Select, and turn the system on to enter your Luma settings.
5. Enable "Enable game patching" then save your settings.
6. Launch the game to see if you have the support options.

So is it more or less the same for the physical birthright version?

EDIT 2: My game still has the same problem; supports aren't loading :(

Before I spend hours digging through folders and tutorials for it to not work: is there a way to apply this to games being run with Citra?

Also, does this directly modify the game cartridge? If I were to play the same cartridge on a different (un-hacked) 3DS, would it play with or without the patch? If the latter, would saves created with the patch be playable on an unhacked DS? What would break if I did so?

Can't answer the Citra question but:
1) Does not directly modify the cartridge.
2) Without the patch, so you won't get to view any of the conversations you unlocked unless they were in the base game (i.e. M!Corrin & Azura C-S or F!Corrin & Azura C-A, you just won't be able to view the S Rank conversation for the same-sex marriage couples).
3) Yes they're playable.
4) Nothing would break.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!
