I'm having a problem after patching the rom. I dragged the rom into the enlarger...then i have the new rom FFA2e. i then opened PPF O MATIC put in FFA2e for the ISO file and patch_with_ppfomatic.ppf for ppf. When it cames out i try it on my ds (with R4) but it doesnt load (it doesnt even have the picture of the game).

First of all. Thank you very much for everything !!!

I just wanted to ask about a quest... I just started a few days ago and having some trouble doing this quest 'Iron Ingredients' the problem is since the story isn't translated nor the quest is giving me much information, i engage in battle... I kill the 5 bunnies and they kept adding more bunnies onto the screen... i tried talking to the guest within the battle and nothing happened either. Just wondering what i have to do to pass that stage cause its been bugging me quite sometime. I know kinda off topic but couldn't find anywhere else sorry...

Thank you and would be much appreciated if anyone can help!

elitemem I had the same problem. All I had to do was mova all the files (ffta2 clean rom, enlarer, ppf-o-matic etc.) to a computer with more RAM. Basicaly a newer faster computer. The file size after patching is generally 110MB or 116MB

Thanks its working great now

What should I do if i wanted to leave the speech text in story mode as it is in japanese instead of gibberish since it's not planned to be translated?

I have tried to uncheck hiragana and katakana alphabet checks when generating a new rom, but it still comes up as story text gibberish.

Is there any way that I can leave story text as it is in japanese?
anyone managed to do this?

The *gibberish* is in fact a side-effect of a basic compression system. You can remove it but you'll get instant crash. There's no way we can do anything about it, the game loads string table as a block in ram. If the table is too big, you'll get some overflow and crash. Without compression tables are between 2 and 3 times bigger than the japanese one, with compression they are smaller... It's a no brainer.

thanks for the reply deufeufeu

that is most unfortunately to hear...

i was hoping to use my half baked japanese and knowledge of chinese to decipher the story.
so i really have to choose between half translated and japanese version of this now... darn

i've been using the "unstable" beta version and so far all the story text is in there (admittedly I only played for 20 mins). The program worked fine, retrieving the DB worked fine, and patching the ROM worked perfectly. Game plays great. I was just wondering if anyone knows how far the story has been translated so far, and if anyone (i know DFF is not translating currently) is still working on the story.

If not, I would like to go through and do google translation on it. However, I've found that the google translation button is not working properly. it is either not requesting the right page or is not parsing the results correctly. Are there plans to make this function work? It would be nice to have even the somewhat moderately understandable google translation as opposed to none at all.

has anyone else been having problems with the game not moving forward after completing a battle? usually it will be in situations where there is dialogue after you finish fighting. The dialogue plays, then all the characters just stand there on the screen and the "you beat the quest!" message/animation does not happen. it is not frozen, because idle animations like water do not stop... it just seems to not be sending the proper command to the game that says "okay the dialogue is done". anyone know of a way to fix this? i've had to switch back and forth to the japanese version w/ the same save file in order to get myself past these quests... but it is a huge hassle, especially when i'm not home.

There is no fix for this.
Deufeufeu is currently working on Jump ultimate star.

There is no one translating the story (or no database update). But even if no one is translating at the moment, I don't want to see the database "garbaged" with a google trans. Then we will not have any hint about what is good or bad trans in the database. I think new people who want to try the patch have to get a clean database for their patching process.

But You can do a google trans for you on the local file and patch your game.

okay thanks, guess i'll just have to bear with it. don't worry i wasn't planning on putting google trans into the db. i don't even think you can do that unless you have a login/pass for the server.

putting in a google trans for the 'offending' dialogue does not appear to fix the problem, but you probably know that. it would be nice if you could do a rename on the files from within the R4 interface so i don't have to put the card into my computer every time i want to swap my save between the japanese and patched versions. is there a way to do this?

using the 0.2.4 patch you'll get no freeze. I don't know what the freeze is, and right now I don't really want to spend more time on this because of the upcoming official release...

if i patch my clean rom using the 0.6.0 editor will that be equivalent (in both translation and stability) to the 0.2.4 patch? I'm on a mac so i can't use the ppf-o-matic or the enlarger to use the actual 0.2.4 patch.

also, have you read something about an official release date? afaik it is still just "TBA 2008" without any real word from Square-Enix about it.

You can rename it using DSOrganize.

hello, im new to this whole scene. but im trying to follow the 2.4 patch, and well, the enlarger doesn't work for me, all it does is attempt to load up then disappear. within a second or two. anyone know what the cause of that is and how to fix it?

thanks (:

Sounds like a Ram problem to me.
If you have less than 256 Mo Ram, don't bother. If not, I just don't know what the problem is.

thanks for responding,

i have 2046 ram (or so it says in dxdiag)

what the problem is, i think windows xp doesn't actually run ms dos, it emulates it? so.. the program pops up and "finishes" then closes, but the file i need doesn't come out. of the process, it stays up a split second and thats it. not sure what to do.

i got it working. if anyone has that problem with ms dos window simply closing? after you use the enlarger.

right click enlarger go to properties, click "compatability" tab and then check the box under input settings

"turn off advance text services for this program"

it'll fix it. (:
