Hacking DSi Ware questions???

I am thinking about getting a DSi but I wondered about the DSiWare stuff.

If I buy some games, using my credit card, what are they linked to. Do you create an account for DSiWare, or is linked to your DSi. Can I backup the games somehow in case of a failure, or perhaps a problem with the SD Card, or what if I get a new DSi to replace an old one.

What if I format my SD card, can I redownload anything I have previously purchased.

I can't find any info about how to go about this.

Games are linked to the DSi, the account is linked to only the DSi, you can backup games but they must be copied to the system memory of the DSi that downloaded the games to be able to run, and as long as you don't delete your system memory or format it I believe you can just redownload the games you have already. (All of this might change in the future I don't know.) Oh yeah your points also get deleted with the system memory I think since that contains your DSiWare shop files?.

20 USD are charge into your credit or debit card.
DSiWare can be re-downloaded for free once you have purchased it onto the DSi you purchased it under.

No you won't be allowed to.
Your going to have to pay for it again, unless you send your DSi to nintendo to fix.

and like me they could send it back without fixing it
they told me i was wrong and it wasn't broke. but it was and still is.
DSiware is locked to that dsi. cannot be transfered.

That seems like a very bad business model. At least with iTunes, and the PSP Network Store, everything is bought and payed for using an actual account specific to the person, not to the device, and instead you register and de-register devices to your account.

This sounds like Nintendo have messed up to me.

Oh well, guess there is nothing I can do, as I am getting my DSi tonight on my way home from work.

No you won't be allowed to.
Your going to have to pay for it again, unless you send your DSi to nintendo to fix.

This is partially incorrect. It is true that DSiWare is locked to the DSi. You are incorrect in your statement that it cannot be transferred.

While it is not extremely easy to move downloaded DSiWare between devices it is possible and Nintendo will help. I have done this with another DSi that broke within the retailer's 30-day return policy. You will need to call Nintendo support and tell them that your retailer is swapping the DSi for you. They will ask for both serial numbers and you're Club Nintendo account information. They will then transfer your DSi Store points and previous downloads to be DRM'd to the new device. You will just have to connect to the DSi Store from the new DSi and re-download your previous purchases. Your previous DSi will be unlinked from your Club Nintendo account and all previous downloads should be rendered inert.

I will contact nintendo today about what you have told me but i do not have the old DSi anymore or the serial number but it was linked to my club nintendo account, i had paper plane, pyoro, aquite, warioware snapped, mixed messages and lots of points left over. i did a format on the dsi before swapping.
customer service were really keen to not help me, they said their is nothing i can do, i just have to deal with it or get my money back. very bad and made me really depressed as i love ninty.
my dsi was sent to repairs at nintendo but after 2 and half hours of testing they sent it back to me as broken as it was sent. after contacting them to ask why they didnt fix it they told me i was wrong and the dsi is fine and i must be using it wrong... the damn shoulder button didn't work at all and they say i'm using it wrong! took it to gamestation and they tried it, agreed with me that it was faulty, and happily helped me. They said nintendo have been known to do this.
still i will try this and hope for the best as now i only have dr mario but that is fun.

-.-; got my new dsi today, rang nintendo service and told me they can't do anything about transferring as they require both dsi to be sent to them. Suck just lost 2k point and other stuff :

ouch!!

seems the same on loosing 200GB worth of data because the HDD is broken.

I might transfer to PSN because I can have my downloaded games through my account. NIntendo should be trained once more

lucky, im not buying points. im waiting for free DSiWares. lol

but I promise Anya I'll buy from him but I have no money right now. I bought a PSP2001. I'll buy from him when it's the right time *coughGBAwarecough*. perhaps in a week or two.

Before that happens , just copied the DSiWare data to SD Card.....

Don't think that will work, i thought all dsi ware have unique code so even transfer to sd it won't install on new one
