My opinion: DSi-XL will give you the best exprerience! I've got a couple of normal ones but I never touch them, only the XL gets used (for playing NDS/DSi games).

Overpaid for a DSi XL yesterday. Bit of yellowing on the sides of the screens but will pretend vignetting is cinematic or something until the Chinese hardware mod gods grace is with oled dsixl screens (let me dream).

After a giant pain in the butt with a micro SD adapter that wouldn't 'unlock', finally rolling with a full sized SD card.

Is there a reason to go with the unlaunch method over stylehax? Would avoid the tiny brick chance if it wasn't a case of less features. Is bin file backup and godmode stuff only on the unlaunch method? What's the go to recommended these days?

Unlaunch gives you coldboot into cfw environment. With other entry points, you boot into an unmodified dsi firmware and have to manually run the exploit every time

All set up now. Bit of a screendoor effect on a DS with such a big screen but still, good to be back into DS games without having to fidget around with screen placement on emulators etc...

IPS would be more of a colour richness thing for me.

There's a pretty cheap Dsi XL in my area guys, but the bottom screen is scratched up bad. Is that likely to be the screen itself or a digitizer or something? Complete noob when it comes to that stuff. I do see that there are replacement screens available via several outlets- is there a known best source to go with for replacement DSI XL screens? It would only be the bottom screen, no way am I getting a soldering iron for the top screen...

I'd personally go to bat for TN being better. Colour richness is all well and good, but comes at the cost of response time, which is naturally nice to have for gaming. While some would think the difference largely theoretical, Red Viper recently had to adjust to compensate for the inferior response times of IPS panels.
