It’s all about Fire Emblem - the hot games this week

Last week I fished four games out of the ether that looked interesting, and actually ended up both buying and very much enjoying two of them. If you enjoy a roguelike as much as I do, be sure to give Wanderburg and The Loopler a look. This week I figured I’d do the same dive, albeit maybe a little shallower. You see this week I really only have one game on the mind.

It’s finally here. Or at least it will be on Thursday. I’ve been looking forward to this since it was first announced, and my excitement only inflated after the dedicated Direct it got. Given the apparent scope of it, it genuinely looks like it has the potential to be a series high, though naturally time will be the judge on that front. If you’ve got a Switch 2 and the taste for some strategy RPG goodness, it’s not one you’ll want to miss.

To give the other major releases a bit of a more fleeting shoutout, we also have Marvel’s Wolverine, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter launching in the same window. Diablo 4 is also coming to Switch 2, which is cool I guess. Of these I am moderately excited for Trails in the Sky, but as somebody who’s yet to finish the first chapter, this one won’t exactly be a priority. It is fully on cartridge for those of you on Switch 2 though.

Now onto the more interesting picks!

I know I said it was all about Fire Emblem this week, but Duo Quest is one that’s actually been on my radar for the past month or so when I gave it a go with my partner. This is an indie roguelike deckbuilder, now stay with me here, with the fun twist of friendship trivia to power up your cards. That does sound pretty fun right? The core map traversal and card combat does give some big Slay the Spire vibes, but the friendship testing intermissions are more than enough to set it apart from the pack. You should expect your relationships to be tested in the most obscure ways. I still can’t believe my partner didn’t think I knew what umami was. The nerve!

As Early Access Steam games go, I feel like this one doesn’t really need an introduction. TCG Card Shop Simulator really did burst onto the scene two years ago, and even now remains overwhelmingly positively reviewed. I threw ten hours at it when it came out and had a blast, but never really found the right moment to jump back in. With it launching as a 1.0 release on the 15th, it might just be that time. It scratches a primal itch that I didn’t know I had prior to picking it up.

Where TCG Card Shop Simulator is a game I expect most people have heard of, I really couldn’t say where OpenFront sits. I’ve personally had a blast watching DougDoug push the web version of the game to its absolute limits in his streams, all while waiting for the desktop version to drop. This is a battle royale game that takes place on the world stage as you fight for dominance. It’s real time strategy with some really nicely animated shifting country borders. I’m excited to dive in, though I’m seriously struggling to see how I’m going to find the time amongst everything else.

That just about wraps up my short dive into the games I care about that are releasing this week anyway. If there are games you’re looking forward to that haven’t made it onto my radar, I’d certainly be interested to know. Equally if you want me to give some more in depth coverage of the games I’ve mentioned here once my schedule clears up, let me know and I can try my best to oblige.

Am I the only one who wish there was a sequel to the first fire emblem warriors? Little sad they just made Fire emblem warriors "Three hopes" instead. I liked the original story featuring the popular characters. But they just did the same thing of making a spin off sequel like Legend of zelda breath of the wild > Age of calamity + Tears of the kingdom > Age of Imprisonment.

Also has fire emblem gotten easier? I know they now have option to not kill off your units permernatly, but after watching nintendo direct, it just looks like way too much management & preparation for battles. Some RPG just feel more like a drag to prepare and manage characters due to all the features they let you do in the game. I still wish sega just made new shining force game. The stories was easy to follow, had unique race of characters to play as and you save the world from evil monsters. Fire emblem has more 3vil people doing bad things than monsters to slay and story that feels like watching tv drama with so many people involved. :ninja:

Seems like there's a lot of systems this time around, but there's usually a challenge to be found in the harder modes of a Fire Emblem game. Hard to say for this one specifically with it not being out yet though.
