Homebrew Downgraded N3DS XL (9.2 from 9.9) may still have updated browser that forces update?

Hi!

I have successfully downgraded my US N3DS XL from 9.9 to 9.2 using the Sysupdater loaded via BrowserHax and MenuHax. I did in fact get the nag message prompting me to update, but I was able to get around this using the DNS trick. The downgrade to 9.2 was successful.

However, I am attempting to load BrowserHax again on 9.2 to load MenuHax, and am running into problems that I imagined wouldn't exist on this firmware.

The browser keeps prompting me with the update nag message, and when putting in 107.211.140.165 as primary DNS, and 107.211.140.065 as secondary DNS, I keep getting the nag message saying to check my networking equipment. The usual.

I thought that this wasn't an issue for any firmware below 9.9? Or perhaps the new version of the browser was retained even after downgrading to 9.2?

I can provide any further information if needed. Thanks! :)

The output is more organized and easier to read. You get the names of the mismatched/missing titles vs. just the title ID.

Example:

I've loaded Zoogie's downgrade checker, and I've found the New3DS Browser data here. I've attached a picture showing this.

Definitely an incomplete downgrade... :/

What should I do to fix these?

From the looks of it, yeah, the browser and NATIVE_FIRM didn't downgrade, amongst other things. You'll want to get the downgrade sorted out before trying to move on to CFW or anything else.

I believe so, yes. If and when it gets NATIVE_FIRM and the browser downgraded, it should be easier to finish up anything else it might miss since memchunkhax 1 is a lot more stable (it's the exploit everything on 9.2 uses).

Yeah those two look to be the most crucial here. I'll do that and report the results. Hopefully it works out and anyone else with this issue will learn from this.

Thanks! :)

If it does manage to get your NATIVE_FIRM and browser down to the ones from 9.2, using miniPasta CFW + the regular sysupdater should be enough to actually finish the downgrade in a stable manner. After that, follow whatever tutorial you prefer to get going with an emuNAND (Cakes, Reinand or RxTools).

I am happy to report everything was successful! At least it appears to be.

Loaded sysupdater, and reflashed the 9.2.0 firmware all from MenuHax (that I originally loaded via Ninjhax).

Rebooted, checked the browser, and was able to load BrowseHax on the first try without any DNS modifications. No nag message at all.

Also checked Downgrade Checker, and it looks much better.

Thanks all for your help! Time to get CFW on this. :)

If you're paranoid about it, you can remove the Amiibo settings safely, since that wasn't introduced until like 9.3 (or 9.5), but the other mismatched ones are probably okay to leave alone as long as your system is working fine. Once you make an emuNAND you'll basically never visit sysNAND after that (except to install DSiWare/GBA VC, if you want those, or to unlink the NANDs via TinyFormat, which is advised).

I definitely plan on installing GBA VC games, so I'll look into that.

I didn't think too much of the Amiibo settings, but it sounds like a good idea to remove it. I didn't see any options to remove it in the downgrade checker. I read somewhere that this is done through the FBI tool. Is this true?

You can remove system titles with FBI, yes, but be very, VERY careful if you decide to remove the Amiibo settings app/tool. It's very easy to mistake one title for another and cause a brick or semi-brick. If you're not 100% confident, just leave it. It probably won't hurt anything, just that it didn't exist on 9.2.

I have this same exact problem happen to me. I'm on n3ds version 9.2 but I still get the menu hax. I don't have a copy of nijax. Is there any other way to deal with this issue?

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
