Um, Acually, They did release a SNES lite. It's called SNES JR. I got one of those. They are Sweet.

There's a lot of e-penis being thrown around in this thread.

@Hazey: Wow, just stop, worst post ever.

As for a new DS lite. Doubt it, really really doubt it. Nintendo is already banking off of the DS this year, they wouldn't waste money in creating a new DS Lite until it starts to decline. And I HIGHLY doubt it would be completed this year -- also, they would obviously hype it beforehand so their consumer base starts to save up money to buy their new DSLite and nothing like that has surfaced.

I've got a close friend who works over at the Redmond branch of NOA, and he hasn't told me about any new redesigns for the lite.

Then again, he works in software development, not hardware development.

But I don't know how something like a redesign could be kept under wraps for long.

blablabla, if you want not fragile console, buy yourself a crystal case, if you want better gaming grip, buy yourself case with grip (there are those on market), only thing i dont like in lite is that it's volume button and L button (in my used console) is kinda of used and work not as good as new one.

Is it possible, yes, Nintendo released the "re-designed" SP without any warning.
Is it likely, no, as with the Wii the DS is selling too many ATM for them shut down production in order to switch to a new design.

I wouldn't completely rule out a redesign given Nintendo's love of redesigning things (who would've guessed the Micro was coming before they announced it?) but it won't be anywhere in the near future. Despite the DS Lite being announced only 3 months before its Japanese release it hasn't even been around for 2 years yet so regardless of how much notice they give I doubt they'd replace it so soon.

does anyone feel like the top screen is almost as heavy as the bottom one? it feels odd when playing. they shouldn't fix the joint angles cause i hate the clicking sound. make the joints more sturdy like the laptops have with a latch on the front side to open the cover all the way flat. and recycle all the gba plastic for casing. XD

I have dropped my DS lite many many times and I have no problems at all. it is not fragile at all. (if you abuse it, that doesn't count.)

During a recent financial briefing, Iwata spoke about some concerns over a possible revision to the DS or a possible next-gen successor to the dual-screened handheld. Turns out, Iwata isn't so keen on a new handheld device coming from Nintendo right now, or anytime in the future. Instead, he plans on extending the functionality of the DS.

Straight from Nintendo (as of THIS MONTH): NO NEW DS PLANNED.. can we close this thread b/c the title is misleading and actually makes people not want a ds... lame

Nintendo are going to release a new DS design in the next month? Are you kidding? There may be a few problems with the current DS Lite, but not to warrant a completely new design. I don't think Nintendo need to worry about anything new, with both Wii and DS Lite killing in sales.
