This is meant to be a list of all known crashes that can happen in this game since I could not find all reports of it in one place or the one with the post game dungeon is only brought up.
- Certain spells such as Silence and or Mind Absorber have a chance to crash the game.
- inputting anything during the black screen transition when a battle ends can cause the game to soft lock.
(No, this does not only happen during the post game dungeon or Linga Sanctuary, this is a common misconception it just so happens that's where it happens the most often)
- The music may suddenly stop, if this happens the game also has a chance to crash.
- When learning a new Talent (e.g. by using Violin 2 and then doing Item Creation with the desired Ability) the game may freeze.
- if Dias says Leon's name in battle the game will crash
(I cannot confirm this myself since since it's impossible to have Dias and Leon in the party simultaneously, but it was worth bringing up since I read this could happen in a gamefaq thread, awhile back, ill try and find it if i can.)
Q: "Why only crashes and not other bugs?"
A: Because either most of them were emulator exclusive and probably a non issue due to PSX emulators being alot better than they were years ago, ones that were not such as the duplication bug I would not personally consider to hinder the experience since you have to go out of your way to even have it happen.
Q:"Why not play other versions such as the PSP resmaster or Remake on Switch onwards?"
A: I have and they are both good in their own right! But all three are very different in so many ways that I do feel
that this one is also worth documenting.
Hopefully this helps anyone who wants to play this game or for anyone wanting to make a bugfix patch, i'm willing to do so myself, if can be pointed in right direction for any rom hacking tools for this game. (if any exist)
If there are any cheats that fix any of the listed crashes, do let me know! as i'd love to place them in the main post for anyone else to use.
Things worth noting:
It's widely known that the Japanese version has these crashes, but as for the PAL and the 2005 PSOne books version of the game there are many conflicting claims that suggest they were fixed and that they still remain, I cannot confirm this as I do not own either versions.
This was all tested on real PS1 hardware and a authentic US copy of the game as well as an Eboot on PSP made using both Disc 1 and Disc 2 roms from my copy of the game.
