all i can say to all the people laughing at the OP is lol. you just never know with these things.

I was actually going to post that, looks like I was beaten a little.Â

That seems slightly...odd. I wonder what "on-board storage" could refer to. The lack of GBA slot is something I'm concerned with, as some games use DS to GBA connectivity when both games are in the system, though only a few of the thousands between both systems.

I want to see what it looks like.
On board storage could be two things:

1) At least part of it is definitely going to be extra RAM, so that the new DS works with the Opera browser, which normally requires the DS memory pak.

2) It may also have some flash storage, for the rumored Virtual Console service for the DS.

really happy about this one. onboard ram should have been part of initial release.

If they put opera's ram in it, maybe also the rumble built in?
cause if there is no GBA slot, they should make sure DS don't lose many feature.

I think, they didnt make onboard memory, because
1) they cut all costs , when making ds
2) maybe they think it would be easier to load unlegall copys of games

3)In console market, more things you buy to you console, better for market

From MaxC and Gamespot:

Analyst: DS redesign complete featuring no GBA port and on-board storage

Analyst Evan Wilson from Pacific Crest Securities has stated that a new design of the Nintendo DS has already been completed. Wilson states that his contacts confirm that a refreshed DS is complete and that it is thinner (no GBA port) has on board storage and larger screens.

quote:

Pacific Crest Securities' Evan Wilson says new version of Nintendo's portable complete; holiday release torrent creating retail woes.

"Our contacts indicate that a refreshed DS is complete," Wilson said today in his holiday preview investor's note. "It is thinner (it has no GBA port), has on-board storage, and larger screens. However, we do not expect a revamped Wii or DS until sales begin to tail off in all three major geographies." As of press time, a Nintendo of America representative had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

Pretty inevitable this was going to happen, it's been done with every single handheld Ninty have released, all have more than 1 or 2 redesigns, some even more! Unless it's uber sexy I won't be getting one. No GBA? Sacrilege!!

Seems like a logical decision on Nintendo's part, but I think this will be aimed at a specific market, like the GB Micro was. There are games and applications out and still planned that take advantage of the GBA slot still. (e.g Arkanoid, DS Browser, and that new game with an optical interface which I cannae remember...and possibly Guitar Hero DS)

Nintendo is stating that a new DS design is rumor and speculation.
Yes, but they would say that even if they had a new DS ready, because they wouldn't want to risk losing DSL sales if people decide to wait for the new version.

I doubt a revision would lose the GBA port, because apart from GBA support, it also serves for various expansions, that would be harder to squeeze into the Slot 1 cartridge along with every game that needs it. The DS was supposed to foster innovative gameplay, and I doubt that Nintendo would put a sudden stop to all that by removing an expansion port. More RAM is also highly unlikely, because any game taking advantage of the extra RAM would be worthless to DSL owners, because they would need to buy the RAM expansion to play it. And it would be stupid to try and force the rumble feature onto people by having it built-in. Nobody likes it anyway.

Any revision could only consist of a metal casing, bigger screen (same resolution, only bigger), and maybe a new firmware with online Pictochat. Because that "local only" thing is just stupid.

@SylverReZ find me ONE community that is free of drama and politics. even video games forums (like this one) have politics section. and for some reason gamers still take consoles/brands wars seriously. even as a kid i never took the console wars bait despite being a nintendo kid.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
one of the reasons i deleted all my social media accounts, reddit account (although i was rarely using it) etc was to get away from this shit.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Vetusomaru, Sadly, not all communities like to play nice. Forums are pretty much dying despite Discord amongst other social media being available.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
i only kept my twitter accounts and only because many of the artists i like share their art only/mostly at twitter.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
lots of discord groups (even the big ones) are also dead for some reason.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Twitter is way too shittier.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
that's why i added some firefox addons to block shit like twitter trends.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Discord, on the other hand, moderation tends to not be very nice in video game communities from what I had experienced.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
nah, discord is also a shithole. discord is good only if you have your own community with your own rules. or if you re lucky to find some groups that arent shitholes.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
as about forums, when i recently revisited some old forums i used to be regular and seeing how immature most members still are i was like "Yeap. Nothing of value has been lost.". Unfortunately it's the good, comfy forums that ended up dead or shut down, especially because of internet centralization.
