kill off a Console alone ? No, Chase off Ports/localization/Developers? Yes there were a few cases w/ the PSP where developers saw how rampant piracy was here in the west vs it was in Japan, and felt no desire to localize. as for which ones? i dont recall i think .hack//Link was among one of em,
loosing more and more indie and 3rd party developers is what Will kill the console. from the effects of piracy. in terms of Ease of piracy? post-Cart Generation (by that i mean PS1, PS2, Gamecube Etc. ), when you take ease of installing a modchip, "Free" vs easy vs hard and skill per person. teh systems that was the easiest was the Dreamcast, DS and 3DS (with it down to 100% free if you already had a usable DS Mode flashcard, or older Firmware)
of the CD Based Consoles the dreamcast ... was a Special snowflake in Copy Protection. it was all Disc based. the console didnt have any Checks in place.well i'll rephrase that, it sorta did? but it relied on the GD-ROM Format, and once that was cracked thru those had the Coder's cable and an SDK, and teh advent of games that did come out in MIL-CD Format not helping matters, it was Burn n' Play!
the DS well thats all in the history of it all. and we're seeing the End of the 3DS's Life coming soon. (what was it nintendy said thru 2019/2020? )
the argument of the PS2? it lasted 13 years from birth to death. the first handfull of games w/ launch was in 2000 in the JP/EU/US Regions months apart. and ending in November 2013 with "Fifa 2014 " with just a month later the announcement of the official Discontinuation. granted mid into the PS3's lifespan going strong PS2 game production went dead with spare releases but right up to the end of 2013, Sony *STILL* made PS2 hardware both console format, replacement parts and in the bravia tv's(some models had a built in PS2) the gamecube launched in 2001 and Ended (Died) in 2007 with teh last 3rd party title being Madden 08 and final 1st party being The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in teh tail end of 2006. so The Gamecube had less accessible piracy, it happened later in the console's lifespan both by exploit and by modchip, yet only was supported for 6 years . the PS2, lasted just a year over twice that, (too lazy to look up the total released games for all regions combined). so the "Gamecube lasted longer" argument falls flat on facts alone.
