The 3DS is out now so the lifespan of the DS is gonna be end, but I hope it won't be soon. I remember the GBA still had new games until 2008, 4 years after the DS, such as TMNT in 2007, which is a quite good beat em up game. Rhythm Tengoku, my favorite, released only in Japan in 2006. Final Fantasy Advance was released in 2006 too. The last game released in US was Samurai Deeper Kyo in February 2008. I hope we will have new DS games until 2013 or 2014.

Releases are dissapearing slowly. Another year at maximum.
DS sells will continue though. I have seen many parents go for the DSiXL instead of 3DS due to their kids having headaches, not being able to catch the 3D properly etc etc
Sweet spot is another matter. When kids play, their friends want to watch them play, but with the 3DS thats barely possible.

tell that to stupid parents.
They think its not worth getting the 3D when you play in 2D.
Some are so stupid that they expect normal DS games to run in 3D lol

Seeing that the 3DS is backwards compatible, I would say DS games won't.

The DS console? Likely IMO.

DSi XL won't though... Many people want a larger screen and there are always those complaints about headaches from 3D play.

I don't want the 3DS to die, but I know it will in a few years. The DS was backwards compatible with the GBA but it still died

Every system dies after awhile, I think the DS has a bit of life left. Once games stop coming out, it will die like all the others.
