Do PS1 games have more lag than in the PS2?

My understanding is that even though the PS2 has PS1 compatibility by hardware, the way Sony implemented Popstarter was via emulation. If this is true, then you're probably better off with the much better PS1 emulation on PS3. The only advantage a PS2 would have in this scenario would be its native 240p output, but that would only matter if you're playing on a CRT TV.

As said a few posts back, all emulation has some inherent lag. RetroArch's run-ahead is the only exception I know of.

Do some game need patches to work?

PS3 has barely any input lag on PS1 or PS2, it's actually much better than PCSX2 on a NASA supercomputer.
How Sony managed to pull off ps2_netemu so well is beyond science fiction, not even the PS4 seems to be able to replicate this.
My guess is the lag you are seeing comes from somewhere else.

What about the frame rate and audio slowness problems in NTSC PS1 games on PAL PS3s?

As far as I'm away you don't need any patches or config, most games (90%+) work out of the box.
I don't know about the video issues, I barely have any.

I asked this because I read this. Do you know PS3 Super Slim's 12 GB flash memory's location? Is it "dev_hdd0", "dev_flash", "dev_flash2" or "dev_flash3"?

I don't understand why the PS2s have some problems with some PS2 game discs. Do these problems affect the PS2 Slim more than the Fat one?

Unfortunately, I can't make POPStarter work via SMB.

I already read that but that page also says BGM gets out of sync after the conversion so that means it still has problems.

Who talked about SCE boot screen recovery?

I find it odd some folders appear in IRISMAN's file manager but not in FileZilla Client.

It isn't, I asked just for curiosity. It's strange some folders show up in IRISMAN's File Manager but not in FileZilla.
Folders not appearing? Like what?

OPL will not overcome that compatibility issue. It's a hardware issue caused by a change with the IOP (dedicated PS1 CPU) being replaced with an SoC and emulator in the slim. Maybe that can be changed in the future if it's understood in-depth and can be modified with software.

The PS3 might be able to overcome the PS2 games incompatible with those specific slim models since the IOP is done in software, but I somewhat doubt it since the PS2 emulator has its own problems.

They're caused by almost the same issue.

The PS1 CPU (IOP) in the PS2 handles all the input output (disc drive, memory cards, USB, ethernet, etc) on the PS2 side, while for it does backwards compatibility on the PS1 side. Similar to how the DS is backwards compatible with GBA games, but not the GameBoy Color (DS doesn't have the GameBoy Color CPU built-in like the GBA). Or like how the 3DS (ARM11) contains the NDS CPU (ARM9) for other tasks (I think as a security processor?)

The IOP (again, a PS1 CPU in the PS2) is used as the PS1 CPU in PS1 games, and the GPU is emulated through software (not completely sure how audio works). This is how Sony managed to keep most PS1 games compatible with the PS2 fat, but broke some games when replacing the PS1 processor (IOP) to a different chip in the slims.

If I had to speculate, Sony replacing the IOP (again, a PS1 CPU) with the Deckard chip and relying on emulation for some functions in the IOP, caused some games to break due to timing and/or I/O problems. Or it could be caused by Sony replacing the EE (CPU) and GS (GPU) (2 different chips) with a 2-in-1 chip (EE+GS) for slims (depends on motherboard model, some have dedicated EE and GS chips, some don't).

It's hard to say why some PS2 games aren't compatible with the some slim models.

I was talking about using that page's mentioned PPF patches, not editing PARAM.SFO. I thought PPF patches were only used to convert 4:3 games to 16:9, not to make unplayable games work.

As far as I'm away you don't need any patches or config, most games (90%+) work out of the box.
I don't know about the video issues, I barely have any.

Are you sure PS2CONFIG doesn't need to be installed? I was told it was.

They are needed for PS2 games, and even then you don't have to do anything, just install the PS2 Config database for webmanmod and you're good to go. PS1 games don't need any config.

I already did that although I use IRISMAN, so will it work?

Then I don't know why are config files mentioned here, not to mention converting games to EBOOT.PBP or using PPF patches.

God dang, that's yet another reason NTSC should have been the universal video format.

But here it's said that after editing PARAM.SFO, BGM gets out of sync.
