Do I need to root my firestick for ps3 controller?

I just got a firestick and want to use my ps3 controllers but from what I see I need to root my firestick just to use the controllers wirelessly, is there a work around to this because at first I just thought I needed to change the mac address. I don’t want to use my controllers with a wire.

Iirc the PS3 controllers don’t support BT discovery, so root is needed to pair the controller.
