A semi-expensive test I conducted yielded the following:

Verbatim DVD+R DL burned at 2.4x using IMGBurn and get Read errors about 50-60% of the time.

Verbatim DVD+R DL burned at 8X using Nero Express 8 and so far since I burned it 5 days ago, not ONE problem.

I had to buy a new burner because my HP burner stopped working on DL images. I have purchased a Pioneer one at Best Buy for $64.

were these the india ones or the singapore ones?

and also does anyone know if burning at 8X on imgburn works?
or could you tell me what other settings you used on nero when you burned it

thanks

I have just burned and tested ( for about 1.5 hours) a verbatim DVD+R DL Singapore @ 2.4x via imgburn no layer break and it works fine.

Not 1 error. I am going to use nero dvd-cd speed and will post pics later on.

Here is verbatim singapore 2.4x dvd+r DL

I uploaded them to a free file hosting site since gbatemp.net doesn't offer attachment hosting. Sorry for the inconvenience for anyone.

most errors are definetly because of the media used

Verbatim 2.4 DVD+R DL burned @ 2.4 = read errors
Memorex 8 DVD+R DL burned @ 4 = no errors at all

Both are burned without layer break with a Pioneer 112D 1.24
Wiikey 1.9G

i don't see how it can be because of media when various users have stated they've used the exact same media as users who have reported successes and yet still had read errors

If that's the case, here is a link with a user who used the same burner as i did, the same media as i did, and got a working disc, but i did not

http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=743...t=0&start=0 second quote box applies to me (nec 6650a verbatim dvd+r dl)

now what is the problem?

I have a phillips spd2413P from newegg. I paid about $30. I bought verbatim 2.4x ( though it says some burners can do 6x) from officemax for $15 for a pack of 10, they were Singapore. I then popped the disc in. Went to task manager and closed everything. Everything as in any tray apps any antivirus any and all of everything. Only thing running were essential system processes. I burned it at 2.4x in imgburn and left my computer. I came back exactly 45 minutes later and it was done. Put it into wii with wiikey 1.9g and worked fine.

I did not do a layerbreak.

@user above with same drive as another dude.
make sure you guys have the same mod chip as well and OS and manufacture country. You cannot really replicate the same situation. Just close everything and burn slow on verbatim if you have a wiikey for best results.

It seems that there are still people having difficulties getting their dual layer dvds to play. I suspect that the majority of these are related to the disc burning process and ancillary equipment rather than the Wii itself.

I initially used a DVD -R DL from Verbatim rated at x4 which I burnt at x2 speed and seemingly burnt flawlessly with no layer break and was verified OK by IMGBURN however I got the #001 error message when I tried it after it has successfully upgraded my firmware. Interesting my Wii was previously at 3.0U (with wiikey 1.9g) and only upgraded it to 3.1U.

I subsequently upgraded to 3.2U wirelessly before doing another disc.
My second dics was an Imation DVD +R DL rated at x2.4 which I burnt, with no layer break, and verified at x2.4. This disc has played flawlessly so far.

A few things worth noting for people having difficulties:

1. If you have a NTSC Wii then you dont need to use the layer break
2. Make sure your Wii firmware is at either 3.1 or 3.2.
3. Make sure your burner firmware is up to date and using the correct drivers
4. Use quality +R DL media - check this website to be sure you do have quality media (dont just rely on brand name but actually check the media ID as well)
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
5. Very importantly, make sure your are in DMA mode not PIO for your burner when in use (check under IDE controllers in control panel if you have an IDE burner)
6. Under no circumstances have any other activity going on in your computer when you are burning.

If the burn is not successful and you get an error message on your Wii you could always use something like CDspeed2000/Nero CD DVD speed to scan the disc and try and find if there is a problem with the disc burn.

i used to check that site back when i was burning ps2 games. it gave me great advice, and got great quality burns from good media ID verbatims.

but now with dual layer and all, it's abit outdated. a lot of the newer models aren't shown there.

is there a newer source with a more complete database?

I dont think you will find a more exhaustive database - this one does contain the well know Dual Layer mediacodes such as MKM001, MKM003, Ritek D01, CMCMAG D01, RICOHJPN D00 etc
Not sure how many are missing - but as you can see codes tend to fall within one category so say you received a CMCMAGD04 it can be safe to categorise it the same as a CMCMAGD01.

One other common thing I notice with people who are having trouble burning successfully is that their burners are often 2 or more years old - in such cases i would think considering Dual Layers DVD have only been around in mass quantities for a couple of years that the latest firmware would be an absolute necessity also as burners are known to be picky I would suggest trying different codes of media.
