Until now I've never had a problem with the patches, but with the latest version I'm experiencing the exact same as above and also get the black screen with the "Gilman Volcano" and "Dark Abyss" maps, in both freeplay and story mode.

Any chance of a version that rolls back changes to these maps to see if we can get them to work?

Thanks again for the amazing job!
It doesn't seem to be an issue with the changes, but an issue with the flashcart, because both Theli and Mixinluv2u have them working just fine. I get the black screen lock-ups using my R4i-SDHC (DSTT clone). What cart are you using?

QUOTE(Inunah @ Jan 2 2010, 03:58 PM) I might be wanting this game, but if there's no tutorial then I doubt i'd be smart enough to figure it out. Like with that Japanese InuYasha game for the GBA. Except with that game I think I was winning and I have no clue how I even managed that.
There's a good tutorial in it.
Hmm... Maybe it'll teach me to read Japanese and play the InuYasha GBA game too. NOT! I'm really only interested because it's similar to that InuYasha GBA game and it might teach me how to play.
Half the in-game manual is translated, and the game all but holds your hand through the basic mechanics. Had you actually tried the game, you'd know that.

I'm unable to try the game at this time, for i've filled my only Micro SD Card with some games and stuff for when I get my 3in1.

I'm using the CycloDS Evolution on a DS Lite. But it's the same config that worked fine until about a week or so ago.

when you are getting the black screen error, who are you picking as your opponent?
It happens when I pick anyone as an opponent. I've picked Zeneth, Miranda, O'Riley, Baltheus, Najaran, Goligan, and even tried some several times, wondering if starting order somehow played an issue, but it froze both when I went first and when I went last. Picking multiple opponents ended the same way.

As the other guy with black screens said, Gilman Volcano no longer loads for me as well, which is leading me to believe that the problem actually IS the changes to the wiki. It seems like as more progress on the translation is made, I slowly lose the ability to load stages. I've tried formatting the microSD, I've tried using a new non-SDHC micro SD, I've tried using different flash carts (DSTT clone, Acekard 2, original R4) and I still get black screens on all of them. This is the only game that I'm experiencing any issues with. I'm out of ideas.

No$GBA loads every stage just fine, as Theli previously stated, so it isn't some sort of patching or rom issue...

well... its hard to figure whats going on as i can't reproduce that on hardware and emu

but i'll have a look at maps patching when i'm back at work ( after jan 11th)

Thanks. Yes, same as injected - it doesn't seem to matter which character - any time i try to load one of the problematic maps in story or freeplay modes I get the same thing - the black screen with music in the background).

that's strange because my setup is also with Cyclo and I did not experience freezes, at least not when you started experiencing them (i haven't updated since).

EDIT:

just tested Gilman Volcano, and i get black screens with music after start game. the map does not load.

I downloaded no$gba today for the first time and loaded Culdcept. I activated the cheat code to unlock all cards, and went to the album. At the bottom of the list, the 3 downloadable cards were there even though I hadn't downloaded them, and they appeared as translated. These 3 cards do not appear translated when playing my save file in a DS. I had been under the assumption that the downloaded cards were an addition to the save file when downloaded, and weren't originally included in the game, and wouldn't be affected by the patch. But if that were the case, the cheat wouldn't have unlocked them, and no$gba wouldn't display them in their full translated glory.

I then took my .sav from no$gba, converted to a DSTT .sav and loaded it on my DSTT-clone, and the downloaded cards appeared as translated on my DS! Then things got weirder. I had a hunch, so I went to profile, and cleared all the game data. I connected to WiFi and downloaded one of the cards again. It was no longer translated. I then turned on the all cards cheat to unlock the other 2 downloadable cards, and they were also not translated.

Using the "unlock all cards" cheat in No$gba gives you a .sav with the downloadable cards as translated, and that save is then convertable and usable in a DS flash cart and retains the translated cards. Using the same cheat on a DS or legitimately downloading them on a DS does not give you translated cards, even if you use the no$gba-converted .sav file.

I'm thinking that creating a cheat code to unlock 1 of each of the downloadable cards, and only those 3 cards, might be possible. It could then be used in no$gba to generate a .sav file that will have those 3 cards translated, which we could link up in the first post, or players that haven't already downloaded the cards could convert their saves to no$gba format, use the cheat to unlock translated versions, then convert the .sav back. I have put in a request to the GBAtemp cheat code crew, so we'll see what happens.

at the end of the file there are 768 bytes which are a map
first byte of the map is number of pallete to use for first tile, second byte for second tile .. etc

Yes, I could know palettes that each tiles need to apply thanks to you, But I couldn't extract corrctly

Are you using some utility when you work?
I think it's quite difficult that my way to working and yours.
==========================
I'm entirely using "CrystalTile2"...

text extraction : CrystalTile2
graffic extraction : CrystalTile2
translating : My brain

applying : CrystalTile2

EDIT: It seems that using the cheat-created cards in-game causes them to lack abilities, costs, and ST/HP. At the moment, these cheats and save file are only good for SEEING the downloadable cards in-game with translated text. Using the cards in a match will cause various issues/lock-ups.

Helder over on the cheat code forums came through! He made codes to unlock single copies of only the downloadable cards, which when used in No$gba emulator, will unlock translated versions of the cards. Converting your save file to no$gba format and unlocking them, then converting save file back will allow you to use it on your DS flashcart, and retain the translated text on the cards. Keep in mind this only works if you do NOT already have the cards in-game.

Codes courtesy of Helder:

Dracoaves
2216AAE3 00000001

Arcanum
2216AB8A 00000001

Theosophy
2216AC06 00000001

Alternatively, this is a link to a newly started No$gba save file that has all 3 cards unlocked.
http://rapidshare.com/files/331278178/Culdcept_DS.SAV.html

Download the .sav file, and visit http://www.shunyweb.info/ to convert the no$gba save file to your flashcart's type, then load the save onto your microSD card. Make sure you have the most recent translation patch applied to your rom, the flavor text was only recently translated, and will not appear translated if your rom isn't. Player name can be changed in the Profile menu, player avatar can be changed after completing story mode once, book name can be changed in Maintenance --> Book. As far as I have found, this is the ONLY WAY to have translated text appear on the 3 downloadable cards. If you start the game using this save file, you won't even notice there was a problem. Enjoy!

mmmm... i already have the cards downloaded. =\ and i don't want to lose my progress. so what can i do?
I don't think there is anything you can do... Maybe try trading them away to someone, then use the codes? Don't be in a rush, because it seems like the cards have issues.

Dracoaves dies immediately in battle due to 0HP, so it's HP-boosting effect doesn't activate. I'm guessing it's base HP isn't meant to be 0. Arcanum did nothing both times I used it in battle. Theosophy gave a very strange lock-up whenever the card was drawn (not used) where music and animations continue, but Theosophy appears as your only card, the rest of your hand doesn't reappear, and no commands work (except soft reset). I also have a feeling that them all having a cost of 0 is an error, but I'm not sure.

mixinluv2u said:
do those same errors affect the downloaded versions of the card? as opposed to the cheat created versions?
I just downloaded them, and no, it doesn't look like they have those errors. Arcanum and Theosophy have costs of 100 when downloaded, Dracoaves has 40ST 30HP, cost of 80+discard. It's starting to seem like the card graphics and data placeholders were put into the game, and that "downloading" them adds the stats to the cards. I'll try to find a workaround, but at the moment, it seems like cheats simply won't unlock working versions of the cards, and the save file is useless for anything beyond just seeing the translated text on the downloadable cards.

EDIT: Nothing I'm trying is working. If you use the cheats, you get translated card text and the card's image, but not the stats and abilities to go with the card. If you download the card, the downloaded card's data overwrites whatever we translated, so you get a functional card, but the text isn't translated. The cards also lack stats when I use the unlock all cards cheat on an unpatched Japanese version, so it isn't the english patch or the .sav file causing issues. I don't think this is gonna work unless someone comes up with a way to hack the stats into a save file...

sigh , i think i'll just disable maps patching for now
also , it would be nice to have a save file with which i can reproduce map freeze on emulator
