Hacking Confused about ps3 hacking

I been doing lot of research as I am planning on hacking my ps3, even just reading this forum, everything seems to contract itself. I will explain simply:

-I have a slim ps3 FW 4.82
-when I ran the MVC Firmware Checker I got the message "update data of version 2.70 or later can be installed on this system"

Can I install CFW on my ps3 without bricking and having to do some soldering?

See that guide says "DO NOT USE ON PS3 Models 3xxx/4xxx"

I thought slim models were 3000?

Nope slim models are anything over 2000.
Itll say on the bottom of your console what your model number is be something like CECH-XXXX

If you can downgrade to 2.70 you're safe. My slim was the same and now runs rogero cfw

The reason it advises not to use 3xxx/4xxx is because these never came with firmware below 3.55

Awesome! Now I just have to figure out how to set up HTTP server/how to install stuff (such as Multiman) once I have the CFW.

Why do you need a http server, you can copy over from USB or just use ftp which is built into webman.

FYI it says use a http server during install but if you look at the 2nd post of the guide you can see there is already a website hosted which saves you from doing this yourself.

Trust me it's not difficult to do it just might take a few attempts as the program itself isn't 100% going to trigger the exploit everytime took me personally 4 attempts to get it to run the exploit

It's someone else's guide I'm guessing they were just pictures.
As long as you follow the words it's easy enough
I used the below guide personally but you seem not very tech savy so was trying to keep it simple

Sorry man I figured it out and followed the steps for NOR (all slims have NOR), one final question.... so is the next step just to install CFW of my choice? Any CFW you recomend?

No problem Just a quick question... part of the guide required me to access my HTML server as you know.. which means I was connected to the internet. I was on my main account when I did this, as soon as the ps3 rebooted after running the links from the HTML, I turned wifi off....

I am a bit worried I will get banned lol do you think Sony will ban? XD

Stay off PSN and it should be fine, even game (not system!) updates should work without PSN.

So you dont think its something the system automatically does the second they detect CFW?

If you're going to be using CFW I would remove your PSN account from the system. I created a second PSN account, followed guides to stay safe online and an hour after I first logged into PSN using CFW (using the tools via the proper methods) I was banned. I would not advise using your main PSN account as you will probably lose all of your stuff.
