They made mention of a number of changes made dealing with the SD filesystem.

Any time major changes are made to software there's an increased chance of bugs being introduced into that software's ecosystem (themehax anyone?)

Gateway have been very open about their updates being public betas. As with any beta caution is to be taken, and backups should be made before proceeding.
Honestly though, calling every single release a "public beta" is really, really pushing it.

Crap, yesterday I selected a game in the multirom menu and the game didn't seem to load (it was probably just taking a long time) so I pressed select again and the 3DS froze up on me. Luckily it didn't corrupt anything.
I'm on GW 3.4.1 though.

Yeah, I've had that problem. Usually moving to a .cia APP then back to the cart icon works for me.

Were getting off topic but I use 3dsdb.com type in the game name and chek the last 5 digits of the title ID

thanks buddy, i appreciate it.

Well, I don't remember it clearly, but you can backup CIA content and card contents.
It is two different options.
And when you backup a save, generally it backups all content together.
You can even backup savedata from a game card and restore it to a CIA version of the game.
In order for you to restore your save data (in case the system collapsed) you must first install the game.
What else...
Oh, if your sytem breaks and you have to reformat you will have a different structure for the Nintendo 3DS folder, so copying that folder will not be a good backup of your saves.
But with savedatafiler that does not matter.

You must backup the file that corresponds to your game.
Look for the game ID in the CIA, it matches the ID for the save file you must backup.

You can find the ID for the game when you are installing the CIA, or looking at the installed CIAS.
The ID is just there for you to look in the install menu of BBB.

yep, i know what codes you guys mean.

i will look into it soon, thanks guys ^^

SD card MBR corrupted = GW .3DX save lost + CIA save lost + emuNAND lost + etc.
Although data rescue software may help with it, it doesn't work for 100% cases.

I don't know whether it's a perticular case or not.
But since it happened at least once, take care of it and your data.

BTW, this case happened on GW 3.5.1.

While the guy may be a Gateway user,

We should check if his card is a legit red card.
And also, if he used other CFWs.

(It'll be good to know what GW firmware he is on)

If above one of above two conditions are met,
it is either:
1. He's unlucky and he crapped out on his SD card
2. GW has some code to corrupt SD cards of not real users. (which still sucks, but not as bad as bricking)

However, even if he is a 100% legit GW user,
There is a chance some code inside crapped out (maybe SD card brick code) and corrupted his SD card.

Can you give more details?
Did the gateway menu appear or the O3DS is in home menu and frozen and the menu never appeared? What steps did you do to that lead up to the O3DS freezing?

And they also have been very open that there is "flaw" in some gateway plugin...

Maybe that flaw got ported over to the launcher.dat ;)

did somebody email this to gateway? if it's a problem, better let them know about it.

I am sorry. Just have a look on the guy's original post, it's DSTWO+ but not a GW.

Requesting a title correction.

Was this with a DSTWO+ ?

They said DSTWO+ users should beware.. maybe this is what they meant?

op is pretty succinct anyway.

The guy said that he just pressed Select as soon as it entered the emuNAND's home menu, with GW 3.5.1 on DSTWO+.

Gateway's history of bricking clones is well documented, this was the risk they took when they knowingly bought a clone card instead of supporting the "innovators" (I don't use Gateway myself, so inb4 shill/illuminati).

Basically brick code has returned, but this time it bricks sd instead of system nand, am I right?

It's a nicer approach to the brick, this time they take away your saves and games, but you can still install CFW... because nobody will probably go GW after being angry due to intentional data loss.

it's actually great if it's true and intentional. this would force scteam to make their own launcher. and if they're just as competent as their reputation, we can at least expect a "gw" that can coldboot, has gba vc support from them.
