Sorry for misleading everyone.
The guy who broke the SD card's MBR was using GW 3.5.1 Launcher on DSTWO+.
Thanks mods for editing the title.
edit by Cyan: I tried to make a better title.

-------------

SD card MBR corrupted = GW .3DX save lost + CIA save lost + emuNAND lost + etc.
Although data rescue software may help with it, it doesn't work for 100% cases.

I don't know whether it's a perticular case or not.
But since it happened, take care of it and your data.

Was this with a DSTWO+ ?

They said DSTWO+ users should beware.. maybe this is what they meant?

Highly unlikely GW was the issue here seeing as a plugin that reads and does not write corrupting partitions does not sound right and who had this problem?

You can use TestDisk to recover the MBR sector. You don't really have to copy all of your data unless you can't recover the MBR sector.

They made mention of a number of changes made dealing with the SD filesystem.

* Allow bigger ExFAT cluster sizes again

We also rewrote our filesystem driver from scratch in order to support our surprise feature, and in doing so we
have introduced some minor inconveniences such as added checks for ExFAT cluster sizes.
These are now removed as some users had cluster sizes as big as 32MB

Any time major changes are made to software there's an increased chance of bugs being introduced into that software's ecosystem (themehax anyone?)

Gateway have been very open about their updates being public betas. As with any beta caution is to be taken, and backups should be made before proceeding.

thanks for letting us know, i am still on v3.4 as i dont need the cheat support thingie in their latest update,

i am good with my cia's everything plays fine etc.

but thinking about somehow losing my saves/cias in one go is really scary for me ! i would go nuts mentally LOL.

i got scared some day ago when i was playing i ended the game and put the System (i use the N3DSXL) i put it to sleep while it was in Emunand and i dont ever have Wifi on , after some hours i open it back up and i saw only black screen on top and bottom screen said somehting about Error and to power it off.
it freaked me out , i thought it updated the system or that now it would corrupt my data in the msd!! but luckily nothing happened..

so i would actually like to know how you guys BACKUP your data.. e.g "SAVES" <<<< thats the most important for me as we can always re-install the cia's i have the cia's in my HDD,

but i have no idea how to backup my saves, i wouldnt want to restart every game , that would be hellish ! i am sure you know what i mean, so if i want to backup my cia saves.
would i have to Backup the whole Folders in the Nintendo3DS folder (which also contains the installed cia's i assume) in my MSD ? .. or is there a simpler way?

Use savedatafiler and then copy the filer folder to your pc.

i have only once used that app , and it was confusing enough to backup or was it copying .. i think i copied somehting ..

a hacked MH4U save file that had loads of stuff in it ! but i have no idea how to backup saves with it.

i had once tried it but i got so many errors i never succeeded in using it the right way, if there is a guide or if you know the steps

i would be very thankful if you tell me how ! i would prefer to use that over having to Copy the whole folders, as it would take hours and i wouldnt want to hurt my 64msd. XD

Export -> Backup
Import -> Restore
Understand now?

Well, I don't remember it clearly, but you can backup CIA content and card contents.
It is two different options.
And when you backup a save, generally it backups all content together.
You can even backup savedata from a game card and restore it to a CIA version of the game.
In order for you to restore your save data (in case the system collapsed) you must first install the game.
What else...
Oh, if your sytem breaks and you have to reformat you will have a different structure for the Nintendo 3DS folder, so copying that folder will not be a good backup of your saves.
But with savedatafiler that does not matter.
i do buddy, but there are hundreds of folders..

so should i export every folder yeah? and many of them had some errors when i last tried backing them up.
You must backup the file that corresponds to your game.
Look for the game ID in the CIA, it matches the ID for the save file you must backup.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

You can find the ID for the game when you are installing the CIA, or looking at the installed CIAS.
The ID is just there for you to look in the install menu of BBB.
