Are you getting any error messages?
Things you can try are:
1. If there is a "Nintendo" folder on the root of the SD card, delete it.
2. Format the SD card via the Switch settings.
I was getting error messages with my SD card and option #1 did the trick but initially I formatted the SD card using option #2 and the Switch was able to read the SD card.
