Hacking Can you still use a DS lite with a broken hinge?

I'm interested in buying a DS Lite. You can get a great deal on ones with broken hinges.
I had a phat ds that you could easily use with a broken hinge, I'm wondering if the Lite is similar.

Nah, not really, the whole upper part hangs loose when one of the hinges is gone(from my own exp.).
a DS with just a damaged hinge(i.e not completly broken) is still usable, but will soon break as well.

Of course you can use one with a broken hinge. It will just be broken, so don't seperate tha halves. If you tear the ribbon cable, it won't be usable any more!

Well what I meant was i can have it open without it falling down.......

But i've gone for it. 40 pounds for a ds lite..... though it is pink

Bad idea.
I've also had a phat with a broken hinge and it was fairly usable but a lite is very fragile.
I suggest you get a replacement case off DX.

I will get a replacement case, but they scare me I'm just looking at a stopgap for a bit.

Replacement cases are actually quite easy to fit, if you take a little time doing it. I used one to repair my DS phat.

Yeah. Replacement Cases are pretty easy to set up but don't mess up.

You can prolly find some cheap ones of eBay.

Get them off DX.
GBAtemp did a review of it recently and they were pretty good.
Stay away from SHOCK! cases though. Haven't heard anything but bad things about them.

stupid anti shock cases... i got one for my ds paht and the hinge broke... and i lost the piece that came off... i fixed it today by gluing a piece of plastic onto it and then i realised it worked, but it was still kinda loose.. so i took it off and trimmed it a bit... then bleh. i have to find more plastic now...

dollar store bb gun barrels seem to work for me..
