Setting what up? Name the distribution, version. If you know something about using computers setting up fedora or ubuntu should be straightforward.Wllmrly said:Can someone direct me to a good guide to setting it up?

A few, if you want to play games you will need crossover(and that`s not free but optimized for gaming)QUOTE said:lol, I wonder if Wine supports MMORPG games like Eden Eternal?

I tried Ubuntu recently, got so frustrated with the 'have to give yourself permission to do absolutely anything every time you try' that I nearly threw my computer at the wall. The fact that even if you are the admin of the machine and you still don't have automatic access to create a folder then copy a file to that created folder is absolutely insane to me.
What distro were you using?
EDIT: And Nimbus: Quit moaning. He simply said he preferred Windows. Clearly you don't. That's great. You don't have to rant about how secure it is. Spinal is a clever fellow, I'm sure he appreciates that it is being secure. However, some of us don't need that security.

eden eternal
But I would assume that no all games within Steam work? If I am wrong, I am rather impressed. I assume though that it is on a per-game basis whether they work or not.Nimbus said:master00d said:nope its rated garbage :Sgamefan5 said:lol, I wonder if Wine supports MMORPG games like Eden Eternal?
eden eternal
Figures...now Steam on the other hand...yeah that works.
master00d said:i like and use more linux because well
1.it free all the future versions the updates (which are very often) are totally free
2.it boots fast like 10s for the ubuntu version ....even faster if you have a light-ware distro
3.its secure .........hell yeah.also it uses more resources to run, when you have windows a part of your memory will go to the antivirus running in background ,also not all antivirus are very effective and soon or later you will be infected
4.it has a nice software center like an appstore with lots of things free and now has some commercial games and apps too
5.it has a great community so troubleshooting made easy
6.no blue screen ....every one that has windows had one of this
7.you may learn something how the pc works
but it has some down sides the mostly are the software/games libraries that is a lot smaller than wind/mac :S
also some programs require that you compile the software yourself and if you are new to command line well it can get a little complicated but with time you will improve
and for a easy installing you should try ubuntu
EDIT: also as a downside id like to say
UNITY SUCK !!!
and it will be getting worse as in 11.10 the gnome classic will not be implemented

Really? Linux doesn't run Windows specific binary files? Shocker. On a side note, Linux doesn't care about file extensions I believe, and identifies files in a proper way, by the header of the file. Therefore you could name any type of file .exe or .msi and it should still open normally. So your argument is incorrect, because Linux CAN open .exe or .msi files, just not the ones you're thinking of. It should be Linux doesn't run Windows binaries.coolness said:the only bad thing about linux is that it dont open .exe .msi files etc

Exactly, one of the best things about Linux is the fact that it can identify based on headers, rather than extention.
Hell, you can leave out the extensions, and it'll still identify it.
Eg: Trojan disguised as innocent jpg will show up as an executable in Linux.
please dont speak about gnome3 i hate/love thatNimbus said:master00d said:i like and use more linux because well

Gnome 3+G'Shell isn't as bad as I thought, you might wanna use that.
See my last desktop post in the "Post a pic of your desktop thread" to see what I mean.

Not wishing to distract from the discussion but http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310147 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310519
Huh....
Someone explain to me why I was never able to find that article, no matter how far I dug or looked for, back when I did use Windows? I looked forever, not once did I find anything on the subject.
I guess the question is, did Windows ever allow you to keep that particular setting across installs, or even set it during install for that matter.
you have forgotten the most ninja like ...............the most dark one..............the most .............powerful one if you know how to use it .........the one wich is rated 5Nimbus said:Wllmrly said:Can someone direct me to a good guide to setting it up?
Which Distro ya gonna use? Heres a few of them for some of the major distros, that covers the baseline part of the install. I'm assuming you'll have the CD ready.
Copy/print down everything you'll need, or use another computer with Internet access to view these pages

Gentoo: IIRC Rolling Release
As for Eden Eternal being supported....no clue. Never played it before, never tried to install it through Wine or PlayOnLinux.
