Gaming Can non US residents buy at the shop channel?

I'm about to buy an NTSC (USA) Wii console and I live outside the US (don't want a PAL one because of late releases).
I've heard somewhere you need an actual address in the US in order to buy games (VC titles). I have a MasterCard and ha d no pro;ems buying from US and other foreign sites. Will I really need a US address? Can I buy Wii point cards and use them instead?

If you are going to get a wii points card make sure you can a US one rather than a UK one because they only work on the system for their region!
