The first concern anyone should have when they buy a brand new console, is choosing their first game. An typically when you buy your console, you're dreading having to throw any more money out for the few hundred bucks you already dropped on the system. Well Xbox took that into consideration for once, and came up with a nifty little deal to entice some sales!
The promotion, confirmed by Xbox today, applies to all disc-based games up to a retail value of $60, including Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition, Titanfall, Watch Dogs, and even upcoming shooter Destiny.
The offer is also inclusive of Xbox One bundles, which means you can still pick up a free game if you’re hankering after the Madden NFL 15 or Forza Motorsport 5 packs, too.
 Source
So the offer itself applies to upcoming games, as well as working with bundles. You could theoretically pick up the Forza/Madden/Titanfall Bundle, and get yourself a heavy hitter Like Destiny as an extra bang to your bundle. Not a bad deal, but a strange timeframe. It could very well be a strategy to combat the PS4 Destiny Bundle releasing that same week (which I will happily be purchasing, sorry Xbox ).
Does this, in any way, entice y'all to make a leap to Xbox One?

Well it worked with Mario Kart. Props Microsoft, props! ;)
Well, the Mario Kart thing was a bit different. Nintendo would not let you pick out a game disc, it was from the eShop only. And I got to choose one game from six games, of which I already had half of the games so my choice dropped to one out of three.

Seems more like a promotion offer for those new countries where the xbone is available now.

I feel sorry for first day one xbone adopters. While it's naturally that the device gets cheaper and better revisions over time (as well as a larger library), this one goes pretty fast. No more kinect (meaning: a price drop) and now a game for free to boot. It's almost as if they hate the countries that got their product first (lemme guess...people who already bought one DON'T get a free game?).

Wouldn't affect the new country releases, it's USA only.
And no, the offer does not apply to early adopters, as this is a deal offered in retail stores for physical media.

Luckily for Microsoft it seems that it's buyers understand the 'risks' behind early adoption and don't scream and whine like the 3DS owners did :D

I'm gonna go ahead and duck now...

Some way to turn a situation on its head. :P Early 3DS adapters got a whole bunch of pretty decent games to compensate for them not getting a price cut. Yeah...I guess early xbone owners sure feel special not getting anything but a device whose only function is to inform the NSA about your whereabouts (seriously...did that kinect 2 thingy ever got a decent game?).

If i had the money, I definitely would take advantage of this sale. Sadly spending waaaay too much on other games. Would love to get an Xbone and Destiny even if I wont have time to play it for a while.

they really are desperate to sell systems that come up with this. but to say truth is a good thing, and everyone should do just this, after all, a console worth nothing without at least one game to play, and consoles always came with a game back in the time of the NES.

Yeah they've sold millions of consoles, they're totally desperate
God forbid a company do a promotion!

We should make a thread bashing all the retail stores that have weekly sales, man what suckers! They're so desperate for sales.
Derpderpderp.

Nintendo cut the price by $100 and then gave us early adopters like $15 in old games we've already beaten 10 times.
Yeah, really good deal. I haven't touched any of them.

that was a sarcasm. I do find it a good thing like I already mentioned in the same post.
if you sell something it should be complete, a game console without a game is like selling a car without wheels, sure you can buy them separately, but is just stupid.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
