Hacking Brawl hacks help

Been tinkering around with adding characters and stages to Brawl via Brawl+, but it's kind of hit-and-miss thus far. The first character I tried overwrote what was in the "fighter" folder, and the character appeared in-game as intended. The other ones, I had to rename and finding them was a bit of a hassle in-game. As for stages, I've only tried one, but the system crashes when I try to load it.

Anyone know some simple rules to work by when it comes to name and file placement for Brawl hacks?
