I've noticed the first save spot on wii saves is blank. Anything I can do about it? anyone know what I'm talking about?

Best way to do it is to use Sneek.
Make a NAND dump and run it through Sneek. Make a list of all savegames you see there, and then browse the HDD searching for the files you must delete.
If you delete them and Sneek still loads, then you should be able to delete it also on your real NAND with FSToolBox.

nice idea, but how do you find the corrupt empty ones? those are the dirs without files inside?
As I said, make a list of all games that appear on the savegames screen. Then start checking dir by dir which games are on the list. If the game is not on the list and has a data subdirectory (empty or not, it doesn't matter), then chances are that the corrupte savegame it's that one. Delete it and try Sneek again. If the game disappeared, then you may delete it on your real NAND too.
