Bethesda will not be hosting a digital event this June

Just because E3 2020 was cancelled, doesn't mean games won't get announced this year, as new alternatives begin to crop up, from IGN's Summer of Gaming event, to companies revealing they'll just be Twitch streaming their originally planned E3 content. That, however, is not the case for Bethesda. The Fallout and Elder Scrolls series publisher has announced that due to the "many challenges" as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the company will not be able to showcase their games this June alongside other fellow publishers. Bethesda still seemingly has "lots of exciting things to share" in the coming months, according to VP Pete Hines, but it appears that we won't be getting more information on The Elder Scrolls VI or Starfield by June.

Disappointing but understandable. Fallout 76 was like a goldmine of bad press for the company. They need to make sure they hit nothing but bullseyes going forward if they want to be as beloved as they used to be.

I guess they hate money.

It's Bethesda. The problem is that the exact opposite is the case. They screwed up big time lately, because they couldn't stay away from releasing cash grabs. And if that's all they got in store for us right now, it's wise not to make it a big deal.

The fact that they're still planning to use the same buggy mess of an engine for TES VI and Starfield means Bethesda is going to be a complete joke next generation. Can't wait to see the trainwreck that is their implementation of space physics, especially if they try to tack multiplayer on top of it.

I don't think they know how to write a fully functional engine. The Elder Scrolls games have been hilariously broken going all the way back to Elder Scrolls: Arena. That's nothing new. It's their equally massive failures in other areas in recent years that have people concerned.

It's either that or they're just really lazy. They've been using the same engine since Morrowind and they've continually added new stuff on top of it without ever fixing the old stuff first. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76 were all unplayable at launch because of it...I have no idea how Bethesda's games keep getting such high review scores.

If you all hate Betheda and their games so much, why do you even pay attention to announcement like this, much less waste time commenting on it? Neither myself nor my FitGirlfriend buys their games. Neither should you.

Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all time, it's just that Bethesda have been on a fairly rapid decline since then. I still pick up their (single player) games once their prices drop really low, but only because modders do a great job of rebuilding Bethesda games almost entirely from the ground up. I'd bet if a group of about twenty of the best Skyrim modders created their own development studio they could put Bethesda to shame.

"lots of exciting things to share" probably means a new monthly pass for Fallout 76 and fukk all else, barring some extra (microtransaction) stuff for that, and probably Blades... so yeah good call Bethesda, let's blame the outbreak and save a bit of face!

@Xzi to be fair unless you bought the PS3 version of Skyrim at launch, all the games were very playable. Hell, I'd even argue the myriad of bugs and glitches actually add to the experience - wouldn't be a Bethesda game without 'em, and some of them are hilarious to see. What pisses me off is it's been nearly 10 years since Skyrim, a sequel is still clearly years away, yet instead they continue to shove online bollocks like F76 and ES Blades down our throats.

Thts a terrible attitude to hav - you either buy at full price or not at all
Lmao wtf ?

Couldn't care less. I really can't give any interest in Bethesda as a developer anymore. I guess they still edit great games like Doom, but I see Id Software, not Bethesda so disc. Also TES6 and Starfield being developed in this weak old engine is a bummer, to me, it's already an announcement that those games will be a disappointment. I hope I am wrong ofc, but if I'm not I will not be too depressed (I think I will be, but at least it will not be a surprise)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
