Just a reminder, the fastest 4GB sticks are currently Lexar Platinum II's. Yes, in this case alone, Lexar is superior. The 4GB sticks suffer no lag problems (above what EVERY stick suffers) or plug-in loading issues.

Right now, they are $40, but I've seen them for $28 last week. They constantly drop in price.

i've heard that lexar is the worst, some plug ins dont' work with it too.

A lot of people say Lexar is the worst because a few people had trouble loading CWCheat. I see it over and over. Heck, I felt that way at first until I started to see them smoke Sandisk cards in every benchmark I've seen. They read slightly faster and write MUCH faster.

I can't speak for all Lexar sticks, but the 4GB Platinum II ones are fine. I run 3 plug-ins simultaneously (including CFE and CWCheat) without any hitches.

well here's a thought they make micro sd adapters to ms pro duo usually go for 2 or 3 $ on ebay and then you could get a 16g micro sd for like 45$

its not that psp's dont like larger than 4gb sticks its because in homebrew at least this was the case is based around the 1.5 firmware. The 1.5 firmware can not handle sticks above 4gb but the newer firmwares can i think it was introduced in 2.8. This means that when a homebrew game tries to run unless its in the first 4gb of the memory stick will mess up. This was all true back in OE days but i think that may have changed in the M33 days. Now everything is based off the 3.XX firmware so it should be compatible with the larger sticks. The problem though is that some homebrew is still written in 1.5 and this causes it to mess up.
So to summerize if you can wait out for everything to run off 3.XX go get a nice big memory stick but remember its not very economical.
If you just want everything to work stick to 4gb and lower.
And remember san disk>sony.

.:EDIT:. well i stand corrected but i still expect that some of the reports of not working will be cause people do use old firmware from time to time. i used 3.03/3.10 for ages cause i have a U.P.

3.90M33-2 supports 8GB+ sticks in its 1.50 kernel.

While we are on the subject, don't forget to apply the FAT patch to 3.90M33-2 or else 4GB+ sticks will have trouble.

how do u do that? and i thought dark alex patched that in the latest 3.90m33-3 cfw? this problem seems to only effect fat psps not slims, can anyone confirm this?

SDHC MicroSD 4GB + Pro Duo adapters are slower than Pro Duo sticks. If you use MicroSD directly (like to PC), the transfer rate is good enough for PSP games, but using Pro Duo adapter cuts down about 40% of both read and write speed. So it'll probably lag more than fake Pro Duo cards.

Patch to load 3.71 fatmsmod in 3.80/3.90 M33
The purpose of this patch is to load the fat memory stick driver of 3.71 in 3.80/3.90 to make memory stick reading work better.

The gist of it was that Sony royally screwed up the fatmsmod.prx in 3.80/3.90. Large memory sticks suffered slowdowns. DAX wrote a patcher that basically sticks 3.71's fatmsmod.prx into 3.80/3.90. Problem solved. I think this was a problem on both PSP types.

If you install CFW from UPMS, the fatmsmod.prx file can be patched automatically.

There were other MS problems (these were the ones you were thinking of), but those WERE fixed in CFW.

Hrmm I'm perplexed,

I can get either;

-Sandisk MS Pro Duo 4GB (cheaper) 15Mb/s transfer
-Sandisk MS Pro Duo 4GB Ultra II (more expensive) Write/Read performance: 9MB/sec, 10MB/sec

To me the latter seems faster/better than the second option am I wrong?

i've heard that some memory cards work fine in 3.90 m33 so i'm not sure, i guess i will find out when i get my new memory card, even then i am not sure if i want to upgrade to 3.90 yet anyway.

The Lexar Platinum II 4GB cards ARE the fastest cards out there for reading/writing and access time. The plug-in loading issues weren't only with these cards but also with GENUINE Sony 4GB/8GB cards as well.

The cause of the issue? Dark_Alex's firmware wasn't waiting for the memory card to be initialized and mounted before attemping to load plug-ins. There was a patch released, although 3.90M33-2 and newer all should have it built in as far as I know. Here's some reading for you http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=97185

Maybe this will stop the "Lexar makes crappy sticks", when they're actually much better and cheaper than your Sandisk and Genuine Sony Sticks. Here's some proof of the memory card speeds as well http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=50005

There's no real reason to switch unless you own a PS3 and use remote play over IP.

^ time for me to replace my 4gig Sandisk Ultra II and give that (Sandisk) to my little bro so he doesn't have to use that crappy 2gig sony stick I posted before.

Before you replace your Ultra II, can you run Blackspeed 2.0 on it and post the results?

there is no diffrence in read or write speeds with the sandisk gaming and normal version.

thats the problem, i do own a ps3 and i wouldn't mind using the remote play features, also i'm getting play tv whe it's released and you can use the psp wth that also.
only annoyance that i have wth upgrading wiith a new firmware is that all my gamesaves will mess up and i will have to start all over again
frown.gif
that happned to me previously when i upgraded from 3.71m33 to 3.71m33-4 also the slow memory card problem, alsohugh i've read there dosn't see to be problems wth sandisk 8gb memory cards on 3.90m33.

I'm not sure why updating firmware could corrupt saves, unless you scrambled your stick and didn't keep a backup.

Did you back up your stick?

Also, the fatmsmod patch is very easy to install. There's no reason NOT to use it on 3.90.
