Hi, i would like to know, what is the best r4 (or any of the ones capable of playing ds games) card in terms of quality and functionality. If you can list a few in a ranking i would be happy :)

Thanks

Speaking from my own personal experience, I recommend the R4i SDHC because it runs DS games very well and it's fairly cheap.

They're all pretty much the same to be honest.

Edit: you're talking about playing DS games, not 3DS games right?

There are some that have the text, dual core. What is the difference with the ones that don't have that text?

Most r4 cards are somewhat the same just labeled differently. Dual core should mean it runs faster but Idk about that. I believe mine said dual core but I don't remember.

No clue, it's just something they put on the label to make it sound better than it is, I guess. Or maybe it's referring to compatibillity with both DS/DSi and 3DS.

R4i Gold (r4ids.cn branded) is the best of the cheap carts. A SuperCard DSTWO will cost you more than double that, but is undisputably the best DS-mode flashcart available. The higher price is due to the built in CPU that allows you to play SNES and GBA games on it reasonably well, many games run fullspeed. They also have hands down the best support of any flashcart, whenever Nintendo released a new update that blocks the cart they would have a fix within a day. However Nintendo haven't blocked any DS flashcarts lately and there are no new DS games being released so no new AP that has to be bypassed, so it doesn't really matter that much anymore. Still if you care about SNES and GBA games it's the cart to go for.
This is the R4 card I'm talking about: http://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=149
You can get cheaper cards and there isn't a huge difference between them nowadays, but they will be missing RTS (think savestates) which may not matter that much to you.
DSTWO is here: http://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=135

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
