Banjo-Kazooie confirmed for January release on Nintendo Switch Online

aaaaa.png

Announced unusually early is an unexpected pick for the next Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack game. Rare's 3D platforming hit, Banjo-Kazooie will be landing on the Nintendo Switch as part of the NSO subscription this January after a good few years of the game not being available on Nintendo platforms.

when you think back the N64 wasnt really all that great except for a hand full of games and 4 controller ports.

A console's greatness or lack thereof usually comes down to the games that it has available. Everyone's got their opinion whether the games lived up to the hype or not, but at least to me and my family it was amazing at the time for the multiplayer enjoyment it gave us, and hasn't worn out even after all this time.

Yeah and with the garbage emulator, it'll use linear audio interpolation like DK64 on Wii U, probably.
Are you going to comment that every time the next game gets announced for NSO?

Yeah the emulator isn't as good as Wii VC but it's running N64 games smoothly even in Handheld mode so compromises like input lag had to be made.
IMO the real problem is the high price of the subscription.

You clearly haven't seen how shitty the water temple is being emulated on NSO. It's a shitty emulator and a shitty price. I'm never going to support their using it.

Input lag is horrendous at over 200ms, HUD elements are badly scaled and it's not even full HD.

The Switch is so much more powerful than the Wii (yes, even in handheld mode) that these "compromises" make no sense.

The Switch can run Mupen64 FZ or whatever it's called at full speed in homebrew with the GlideN64 plugin, there is NO excuse for it to be piss poor in quality, so yeah, I don't believe his comment for a second.

I wonder how this emulates. Hope this doesn't add too much input lag, especially because this game is great.

I wonder how Rare titles emulate on this platform in general especially GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.

Ofcourse it wasn't expected to be the XBLA port. They just put the N64 ROM there and that's it.

I actually 100% the game on it, the water in the Dark Link room was really disappointing but you really have to try the games yourself if you haven't yet, I even did some glitches with tight timings.

Please show me Mupen64 at base handheld clock speeds running OOT or Paper Mario at full speed.
On Horizon with Retroarch I had to OC to 1500mhz to play Majoras Mask smoothly at 720p thats why I doubt your statement.

Edit: Look I know and agree that the emulator has problems, but it's far from unplayable. You guys are talking like Paper Mario will have obvious graphic glitches or a input delay that makes the expierence much worse than Wii VC.

The input lag is horrible, there is no defending it, nor the price. Wii VC had games optimized on a per-game basis, but this is just unacceptable. The Switch can handle N64, there is no "having to make compromises" on here as that is a lame excuse on their part.

Enjoy

The emulation is the worst Nintendo has made for N64, the Switch can do better than this. It's not even true full screen or 1080p in their emulator.

The general consensus is that the NSO N64 pack is fine for people who really don't know and/or don't care. However, we shouldn't downplay the glaring issues of Nintendos half assed offering just because you're okay with them.

Exactly, just because the vast majority of people don't notice them, or don't think that they're aren't issues, doesn't mean there aren't issues or that NSO N64 is even remotely good in terms of accuracy. You know the emulation sucks when Wii VC emulated them better, esp. OOT. The games were optimized by one person on a per-game basis, but then he's since quit working for Nintendo. The problem is they're using the same 3D SMAS emulator for a one-size-fits-all approach and it's good for SM64, but the others? Not so much. Hell, it doesn't emulate the Controller Pak for Winback. That's bad.

I played Banjo on the Rare replay thing on an xbone a few years back. Still was a good game I have not seen the likes of in the years since (also Banjo is better than Mario 64). Tried my N64 cart at one point, even on a CRT. Basically unplayable, and if I also have to deal with nintendo's sub par emulation on top of that....

The input lag is slightly lower on the All stars version of Super Mario 64, so I don't know what happened. Saw a video back a while ago while they tested it. Something is just going horribly wrong there.

I really wonder what causes the extra input lag in this emulator. On Project 64 1.6 with Jabos 1.6 is rally low input lag and its even many many many years ago, not sure when, but 2008 or even earlier for sure.

I played through oot with RetroArch using mupen64plus next or whatever mostly in handheld and no OC whatsoever... I don't recall any slowdown.

I think graphical glitches are much worse than an occasional slow down you may not even notice. It gives these classics a bad rep and they deserve better than what Nintendo has to offer, which is just sad.
