Hi.
I'm using backup loader (wiigator 3 or whatever it is), and am experiencing a problem.
Whenever I try to load a disk (I use 4.7 GB DVD+Rs), Some wierd text appears (it's two lines of text on top of each other) and I can just make out the words "No DVD"

I burn the ISOs at 2x Speed with Windows Image Disk Burner, also attempting Img Burn.
The ISOs are fine, they work on Dolphin, i tried Gamecube AND Wii games.

Can't really help you there as i have no experience with using disk to play games. But what i can help you with is give u a alternate disk loading method by using a HDD. In terms of what a HDD can be used to is way higher than those frilly squishy disk.

HDD
Pros
Easy portable and fits in your pocket(CDDVD doesn't)
Not easily broken
Higher storage than disk
Cheaper over time(Buying 1 HDD is cheaper than buying 100 DVD)
Higher cap than 4 GB if NTSF format is used
Easier management of files as all is in a disk
Can be used to store your personal files
Can be used on your computer when you dont want to use the wii anymore

Cons
Still squishy shit.
Can get expensive if you want 1 TB or more
Easily corrupted if you dont safely unplug the HDD via the computer(Oh well the disk dies in a scratch lol)

Maybe try using a -R disc instead of a +R.
It's been a while, but iirc +R discs dont work as good with Wii games.

Yeah, Probably.
Maybe +Rs are thicker than -Rs?
That could explain the wierd noises coming from the Wii Disk Drive.
Thanks!

you don't know very much about this. that much is for sure.

+R's are thicker? that just screams ignorance.

alternate strategy is basically a synonym for solution, so don't gloss over them when offered. HDD loading is faster, easier, and probably more compatible.

one would also guess that just maybe a thread whose title is backup loader should be in the backup loader sub-forum, instead of this one.

Burn your games on DVD-R as instructed. It has nothing to do with thickness (LOL, gave me a good lauch) but trust me unless your burner supports bitsetting you NEED -R discs.

Also consider using Neogamma instead of Wiigator's Backup Loader that is very outdated. You can find it here: http://gbatemp.net/t219243-neogamma-r9-beta-test. Make sure you have a up-to-date cIOS installed. Look in the section 'Recommended cIOS' in the Neogamma thread.

You have to make sure your burner changes the booktype for DVD+R to DVD-ROM. That feature is often called bitsetting support

Really?
I'm looking for a SOLUTION, not an alternate strategy!
How do I ACTUALLY get it to WORK???
Lemme guess...when you were a small toddler, you jammed the cubicle shapes in the round holes until it fit, right?

USB loading is a SOLUTION that ACTUALLY does WORK!!!

Using backup discs doesn't work on newer wiis (since mid 2008, IIRC): the drive doesn't recognize them. And it tended to be picky even on the old ones.

If you do have an older wii and you're really too stubborn to go for the stable USB drive, then petspeed's link will help.

Oh, and check the forums before you post next time, will you? There is a forum section specifically made for it (it even has the link you needed right in the stickies), so you could have saved yourself the hassle of using that many smiley's.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)

    run h2testw on it

when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying
